Justme111, if you don't like this challenge and don't agree with it, then you are free to ignore it. You have misunderstood the whole concept, as this has absolutely nothing to do with personal choices - it is about the cost of living. If you choose to have a particular car, work in a particular job, pay for private childcare, join a gym, keep pets or/and want to change your belongings every few years then fine, that is your personal choice. These things, however, have very little effect on the basic cost of living (the needs).
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.

Back from a lovely meal out..no freebies to collect however ;)
    And a NSD :j
  • Glad to hear you had a good evening Janey :T .

I have had a pretty good week so far, with no less than 3 (!!:D ) NSD's - would have been more if i wasn't counting direct debits going outta the bank.

Received both soap nuts and luxurious lenor sample together in the post yesterday - what a dilemma! The lenor does smell nice. Have given a few samples of the soap nuts to some of my friends to try so will order some more 2mrw - might ask them for extra linen bags too as they are nicer than a knotted sock!
Still have enough soap powder for 2 or 3 washes, so will finish that off then don't plan to buy any more. Must get some essential oil to go with the soap nuts tho. Ecover bleach (25% off) coming with my next Abel & Cole order on Tuesday, so will try that in with the soap nuts in my next white wash. :D

Also got a free Horlicks sample in the post and 2 more sim cards!

Had fish in batter for tea today, with pasta, tomato and sweetcorn salad and I made a cheese sauce to go with the broccoli from the Organic bag, which I steamed. Kids liked it which is always a major bonus. :j

Have baked a lot this week too. Banana cakes, chocolate fairy cakes covered in melted chocolate (25p a bar from Mr A ;) ) and a contrasting (white or brown) choccy button. And made a rather delish Apple n cinnamon cake yesterday to take to my auntie's, who we go to most Saturday's. Haven't bought meat or chicken for a few weeks now, but auntie makes sooo much yummy food on a saturday - lamb curries and chicken dishes and veggie concoctions served with rice and breads and all so wonderfully delicious and spicy! So i am lucky enough to have a cooking free day - although I always bake something in return. And she usually gives me a pack-up too which does me for another day in the week also, although too spicy for the children's taste.

I too don't feel I have the energy or the inclination to join in with your bickerings justme111. It has brought a negative slant which is so uncharacteristic to this thread and I am also baffled as to what it is you are trying to achieve by being so pedantic...?

    i cant sleep....
I think its because im worried - i cant believe i forgot to budget for knickers when i joined this challenge ;)

wish I had a horlicks sample!

ps what can be done with a bag of dried out looking parsnips? just got them the other day and i am shocked they look so bleughhhh already.

If i soak them in water before cooking them would that make them a bit better?

  • Good Morning Jumble-Bee :hello:

LOL I'm not surprised you can't sleep with such hefty dilemmas on your shoulders.
    Let's see...
Have you ever heard of Miriale? I used to get all my underwear from them and they last forever! Such good quality and very comfy to wear. Was planning on treating myself to a set when i manage to come in under budget - this month i hope! :D Check out their website ;)
Regarding your withered parsnips...if you check Abel & Cole's website they have umpteen delicious parsnip recipes on there - so u should be able to find one which will disguise their bleeeugghhhy look  not sure about soaking them in water first sorry!
Hope that helps a little jumble. May u sleep easy tonite....sending my horlicks sample and a goodnight hug your way :heartpuls
