Does anyone have any ideas what i can do with a huge red cabbage?

Hi Jumble-Bee! You can pickle it, or you can bake it in a sweet-sour sort of way - my friend whose OH is German does a very fancy version of this, but basically you only need some vinegar and something that's sweet, could be sugar or honey or raisins or a combination. Slice the cabbage into a casserole, add your chosen flavourings, cover and bake. Some people put cooking apple in it to keep it moist and I think this is an improvement. You get a sharp, fruity-tasting red veggie dish, nice with sausages, but make sure it's cooked long enough or it comes out tough and 'orrible. If you don't like sweet/sour combinations you could just grate it up with carrots and make a red coleslaw.

thanks my dear. going to make many vats of sweet n sour cabbage on sunday methinks.

Just told my bf I had a fabby cabbage recipe and he asked me if i 'call my cabbage charlie' (??!??) apparently i might because the inventor of the computer was 'charlie babbage' (??!??) which sounds a bit like cabbage....

i will let you know if my sweet and sour charlie babbage is a success....

now he is mocking me cos i type with two fingers and i am writing about cabbages which he says no-one will be interested in!

frugalness of today - got my free aussie 3 minute wonder sample in the post, resisted buying chocolate, made an odd 'carrot n quorn' curry to use up wonky carrots :o

Jumble-bee.....your lollies sound yum!:D Also I too received my Aussie 3 a few weeks ago and havn't tried it yet...thanks for reminding me;)

Bails....thanks for the advice about cashback. I havent really gone down that road yet...maybe I should. The trouble is, I don't really buy anything apart from food and bills, of which all my megre wages seem to be spent on.:o
Janey51...Well done on the pastry front!:T I know what you mean about not wanting to spend. I feel that I'm being insulted if I'm asked to pay for anything...what a cheek!!

I think I need to get to grips with my spending diary and not just jot it down on a piece of paper, only to discover that I can't find the list! To be ultra-frugal, I'm going to clip together the backs of envelopes...used of course...to make a booklet!
When my BF and I have to put our time-sheets into the office we have started to use old re-used envolopes that the office have sent our programs out in. We are just waiting for someone to tell us we are mean so that we can tell them its frugaling. re-cycling and 'cos our pay is so c*&p!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm I being obsessive?! :D
