I'm in the southwest and we have no local depot. I think our nearest is about 60+ miles from here but I work from home so, fortunately, there's always someone here to get the deliveries. Only problem is we are too remote for supermarket online shopping, so need to rely on the Co-op for now. Can't wait 'til next year, though, as they have passed planning permission for an Aldi store about 7 miles from here :)

I have spent the evening going through all my bank and CC statements to find out how well I have done during my 2007 attempt at this challenge and am pleasantly surprised :D

  • Mine has been worked out, as I live on benefits, so have to budget fairly tight anyhow (only cause i have debts) When chanellor sticks them up in april, that money will go straight into savings for me. Its what I did last year, started saving it straight away in high interest for DD, so i wouldn't miss what I never had. DS's savings started once I had one of my debts paid off.

  • I'm already in - no.17. But can anybody tell me how I do the signature etc?
  • Hi all, Have been to do my christmas shop in morrisons today, had been saving stamps so went in yesterday, made a list of everything i wanted, and when i got home trimmed it to just over £100, you need to spend 100 to get the 3 free, and got 1 1/2 trolleys full today, including some thing snot for christmas like washing powder and 10 tins of soup on offer. Am not going grocery shopping again until new year, and am all geared up for the challenge now.

Total budget of just over 110 a week, including family allowance for me and 3 kids, if i can do food for 50, then ive got enough left for tv licence, petrol, repairs, clothes, shoes and incidentals, using rest to repay debts and save generally. I have a full pantry and 2 full freezers, so got a good headstart, am a terrible stockpiler of food, and am hoping to get stocks down to move later in the year.

Hoep everyone is ready for christmas, wouldnt want anyone to have to go shopping after my 3 hour struggle this morning!!

  • Right, *nervous gulp*, I'm in. Please can I have an official number. I'll share it with my OH whom I'm trying to get to look in here and join in..... fingers crossed. To be fair though, work's system isn't keen on MSE, keeps blocking it for some reason, hey ho.

I'm working on £4,000 total spend for food, presents and holidays. If I can include anything else I shall - I too shall attempt to do the signature thing :D

Best of luck to us all

    DG

ps does it count that I already have 2 freezers full of food? plus I always keep my larder fairly well stocked? Or do I have to "buy" this from myself? Opinions please, thank you.
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

If the freezer was full before you read about the challenge, then yes you can use this...it's only like a 'shop from home' challenge.

Great to have you on board!

Everything looks ok except for the holiday part LOL Could you switch that to non essentials and, instead, budget the 4k for essentials like food, utilities, TV, Internet, telephone etc? You don't need to state what each figure is and we count holidays as luxury items paid for from other sources like savings.

Now... where could I fit another freezer? That's a great idea!!

I've updated post number 1 to include your details. Just use the User CP button at top of the page to get into your control panel then go to the link on left that says 'edit signature' and you can type it up and edit it whenever there's a change to make :) MSE removed mine and I was advised not to include links or more than 4 lines, so best start small and don't link back to the forums from there :)
