I'm terrified at the prospect of joining up to this and failing - it's all I can do to even think about it! I've just chatted to OH about "budgetting" and we'll see how we go. I'll keep popping in and lurking, if I may? I'll let you know if I manage to keep to it, when I can. I don't think I could cope with telling you all the times I don't....

Do your budget and then work out how you could do (ie which bills to include). As long as you state what you are leaving out, then I think it's still a valid test. For example, you could modify your entry to try to live on a food budget of £4K per annum - that's still less than a lot of people spend.

You'll learn more if you commit to having a go. And even if you fail, you'll probably still spend less.

    Go on....go on....
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

If you like I'll stick my neck out and dig out one of my old posts where I did a meal plan for the week - on my previously mentioned £50-60 per month grocery budget. I don't have kids but think the meals I have would be OK, although my fondness for lots of chillis would have to be toned down I guess!

I agree. Also the OS has some great tips and fab menus that have helped me. Good wholesome meals can easily be made and if you cook in bulk then you spend less time in the kitchen and more time juggling your dosh!:D

Now I really dislike even numbers. Whenever I go to the footy (not often) I will only use odd-numbered turnstiles. I also like the person taking my ticket to be on the right for some reason...I am bugg*red when there are only even left-positioned turnstiles :)

That was lucky that you're number 3 in this challenge, so all's going to plan for you so far. :T

  • I am really interested in this. I agree it sound spretty tricky and it might take some very big changes but if it means I start 2009 with far less debt and less stress about money then I'll do my very best!!

  • Hi, am new to all this, but have been on tight budget for years as a single parent.

I would like to be added to the list, at £4000, plus family allowance, not to include car payment costs as have disabled child and need to get him to school. Will include petrol, food, other travel and bus fares, presents, cleaning, entertainment etc, but not bills such as gas/elec, which come out by DD anyway

Will be nice to start 2009 with less/no debt, and just to be aware of what im spending, rather than just throwing it out as soon as it comes in.

  • For those taking part, you might find this collection of posts helpful for meal planning. Black Saturn's is arguably the most 'famous' and I can vouch for the cobbler being excellent.
