Hey everyone,
I'm kicking myself as I've managed to miss Martin's programme for the second week running grrr. And it's not like I wasn't in either - I just forgot about it.
I don't think my morning lifts are going to work as an alternative to the train as it took so much longer! We left at 7.15 and didn't get to school until 8.25. Normally I get the 7.23 train that gets me in for 7.44 and then a different person drives me to school and we get there at 7.55.
It's the old, time or money, situation and I think I'm going to have to side with time on this issueI just wish I was allowed to use my YP railcard before 10am on this route, it'd be so less painful.
I also did a mini Tescos shop today so I came in at a total of £13.06 all inclusive. Hmph. However, while cooking tonights dinner I made pizza dough in the breadmaker for tomorrow's tea and put half in the freezer for next Thursday's tea.
I'm starting to get very intrigued about the soapnuts so I'm waiting for the verdict to come back on them!~ Lexie ~The Minimoilist.Saving money and the planet at the same time.0 -

Have you all tried to explain this mad challenge to your other halfs ..if you have one?
My DH's eyes started to glaze over so I had to stop.
I think its the three purses I have that really caused his brain to overload.
One for the housekeeping, petrol and bills.
One for my own pennies.
One for my Mum's housekeeping (she lives in sheltered accommodation and I do her shopping.)
Then there's the different savings boxes for 1p,5p,20p&£2...actually there are mine and the house's so really there are 8
Then the little box for vouchers(Tesco and Morrisons Miles).
The box for re-cycled bubblewrap and padded envelopes for Ebay stuff.
The box for pine cones and sticks gathered on my walks to light the fire.
There are more....but they're hidden away.
I think I'm becoming a bit obsessive. :rotfl:0 -

I missed the program as my sky signal has gone, just six weeks into contract too, anyhow they are sending someone out on friday to look at it for me. Daughter was gutted as it meant she has to miss NCIS.
Spent a small fortune in asda today, only went for butter/marge, admittedly got new school shoes for DS1. The real bad spend was the £8 odd on Indian meal stuff, but will try and get that to do two days.

Watched Martin's programme, felt really smug as I'd done quite a few of the things mentioned, and then spent too much time trying to work out how much I spend on eggs. In my reckoning, you would only need 3 or 4 hens to produce 100 eggs a month, as mine used to lay up to 8 eggs per week each at peak times.
A few years back I bought ex-battery. They will lay as soon as they complete a full moult and I got plenty of eggs from mine considering they only cost me about 40p each back then. When moulting starts, laying normally stops. Likewise, as soon as the shorter days come in then laying drops accordingly. It's controlled by daylight hours, so your hens probably won't be very productive during winter months unless you give them artificial light to brighten up their day
Off to check on accounts and stuff now, can't have a no spend day without making a few pence extra as well. :cool:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I'm beginning to think we'll see you on one of those property programmes soonGuess I should add the cost of windows and doors to my house fund, just in case my fixy up doesn't have any  Thanks for making me think about that and I hope you are lovely and snug now you've got yours fitted

Hello!
Georgiasmum - I teach History, I have my own DVD collection which is used by the school, and we have recorded them all too. my school is SO cheap.
I spent 22.34 in Morrisions. BUT I did a big bulk buy of stuff for the pets. so that was a about 40 quid online. but I shouldn't have to do that again for about 2 months.
I have to go to the vets next week too. won't be going anywhere this weekend.
so sleepy night all

Congrats Liuhut, on today's wins and frugality! :j
Uh-oh Nyk....underafiver.co.uk sounds very alluring....wonder if they sell chickens on there... Or donkeys! Cows maybe?
Oh and thank u bails for ur cake-selling suggestion - and yes, I have been considering that!Ur mum sounds like a sweetheart. Hope u enjoyed your evening out at the cinema.
:rotfl: Hilarious scenario Aril - really made me laugh - thanks! :rotfl:
Grateful for the Martin show link - have never actually seen the man himself, so will have to check that out.
 Janey! You have almost as many little pots and stashes around the house as I do - care to share a straitjacket lol?
So glad ur now warm and cozy Mollymop! :j
Commiserations on your Asda spend Penny2MyName lol. I too am mourning a small fortune in school shoes this week
Interesting egg info Nyk thanks :easter: - wish I could keep chickens, but they couldn't be free-range up in my council flat- organic yes! But free-range...alas no  Have been considering an allotment - wonder if chickens are allowed in there lol. Also wondering how do you keep them safe from the foxes bc there are loads around nowadays it seems, no matter where you live...
So very sorry for hogging the board today. Still will be back as I need to post the figures from last week up yet!
Oooh the soapnuts review! Please please forgive my sieve-like brain!
I was not impressed when I first took the washing outta the machine bc of the smell - or lack of it. Think I have been conditioned to think comfort/lenor-type smell = clean clothes! I did put a few drops of white musk room fragrance oil (all i had lol) into the
drawer as suggested, but obviously that wasn't enough. I would worry about putting too much essential oil in though - wouldn't it stain the clothes, being oil?
Dd2 had spilled some choccy on her nightdress which has come out completely and now that the clothes are dry, they do feel incredibly soft and now have a kind of pleasant, fresh odour about them.
You said they don't work on heavy stains dND thanks so much for your reviewso perhaps I will stick to using them for 'quick wash' clothes only - feel I don't want to abandon them completely as I so like the idea of washing the clothes naturally and they're kind to sensitive skin. Will experiment with adding bicarbonate of soda to a white, stained wash also - ds has football practice on monday eves - had never heard or thought of adding this in the washing machine b4!
I only got sent 6 soapnuts - perhaps if we used more....what do u think and how many did u use plz dND?
So glad u enjoyed the chick peas Sweetpea :j plz kindly dig out Lexxi's choccy pudding u had for desert when u have time - gotta try that too!
