OMG flashback. We went to Gatehouse of fleet every year as kids for a weeks holiday in a small yellow farm cottage :)

I'm probably closer to Gatehouse of Fleet than I am to Stranraer, but I didn't think anyone would have heard of the area (unless you collect books). The main town is Dumfries, about 55 miles from here and Gretna isn't that much further.

I've updated the first few posts of this thread to help avoid confusion, it will be easier if you take a look at a couple of the budgets used there as examples and then set out your own budget sheet to see how you can budget. It is for living essentials, don't count in anything that relates to your work as everyone's circumstances are different. Likewise, don't count in mortgage, council tax, water or buildings insurance as everyone's situation is different. Have a look at page one and see what you think :)

nykmedia whenever you say essentials I get confused lol If it's for living essentials then general spends wouldn't be included as they are wants not needs. Most people just leave out the main bills including car and everything else is in the £4k or whatever budget you pick.

Hi, I'm very confused as to how this is possible to live on £4000 a year. Our expenditure, bills, insurance, tv, phones, petrol etc comes to £360 per month and that's after we pay our mortgage of £1024, Water £38 and Council Tax £130. £4000 divided into the 52 weeks comes to £333 yet our outgoings are £360 before food!! Am I seeing this wrong somehow? We live very frugally as after our mortgage and bills as above are paid we have very little money left out of my husband's salary as it is. I'd love to live on £4000 a year but I don't see how..

Sorry Debrag, I copied your post last time by mistake :rotfl: This is the one I meant to use.

If you could take a quick look at the examples shown in the very first page of this thread then it should help you see how we arrive at the average figure of £4000. Hope it helps and apologies for confusing anyone by copying the wrong post last time :D
