I was going to save this little 'nugget' until the end of the month, but I just cannot wait that long :rotfl: It's like a 'bonus' part of this challenge that we use as a reward scheme for hitting our targets. It's every bit as hard as the 4k challenge but ... no... I can't do it... I can't tell you yet... it is just me being over enthusiastic ... and I must learn to curb my obsessive enthusiasm. I'll tell you all at the end of the month, but you can only take part in the bonus if you have met the targets you set out for month one. :D

Sounds intriguing!!! Does it involve eating just lentils and using that greaseproof paper loo paper used in schools for the following month??! :D

Well, I don't think I set myself a target for the month, but it will be a straight year divided by 12, so my target this month is not to spend over £300  in January.

Well Tesco arrived earlier, came to £79 but (hopefully) this should last two weeks. OH popped to the shops this morning for a paper and spent £3. Think that I will be over the target for this month BUT I have hardly spent anything this week and have not took any cash out of the hole in the wall, If I hadn't been doing this I probably would have took 30-40 cash out and spent it on cr*p so thats a positive!!
    Spent £114.50
    WIN £2008 in 2008 £1836.31 2009 wins - £91!!! 2010 wins in Oz $ 6170.... wins 2011 aprox $2000
MFIT - number 37. Reduce my mortgage from £63,500 to £48,000. now at 54,000...

Hi all and welcome to day 6. Everyone is being amazing! Sharing tips for savings and offers is brilliant and reading how everyone is managing is a real eye-opener.

Bails - I have updated post one and confirmed your £4000 target. :T

Broke mum - Congratulations on the 'lightbulb' moment! Speaking from personal experience, this is certainly a way of life but I love the lifestyle it has provided and I love hitting my targets. There's so much more to living on a budget that anyone ever tells you and I find it much more interesting than any other hobby. Yes, I am not totally hooked, obsessed, cmpelled to do better next time round :D

Mumzi - If you have £20 left from this week then you only draw out £10 on Tuesday to bring it back up to your £30. That way, every single penny extra is in the bank ready to meet those bills, debits and debts but earning you a few pence in interest whilst 'in waiting'. You are doing great :T

Hypno - what can I say? You are a marvel and I can't wait to start watching Martin's new show that starts this coming Wednesday. I'll be so upset if it isn't shown in Scotland. Can you just confirm that it's Channel 5 and first part is Wednesday 9th? You were so brave being a part of this and letting the cameras into your home etc I could never do anything like that! Big round of applause for Hypno and her ski-troupe :T :T :T :T

Anyone else on this shallenge who was part of the filming?
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.

Well frankly, I've had a shocker of a week & this month is the easiest of the 12, as my expenses change going into Feb ...

Over budget by a whopping £8

However, the sheer fun of trying to balance out 3 completely unexpected lunch dates etc (helped, I admit by earlier in the week finding an unexpected £20) and various other 'challenges' was weirdly inspiring.

I've gotten such a kick out of using https://www.spendingdiary.com too - love the pie chart for the weeks results - it made everything so easy to see - and confirmed that it was the lunches that completely drained my meagre budget.

So Budget may have been shot but spirit & motivation is high :j
Here's to the week ahead! (including a pre-Theatre dinner, Theatre & drinks afterwards! )

    Off to adjust signature.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi! Still on board but have rather lost the plot in recent days as dd has worrying health issues and we are waiting for appointment with consultant. Focusing on this is helping a bit to take my mind off things but afraid my enthusiasm has faded for a while. Overall for the first week under trying circumstances (also started back part time at work this week after 2 years away with cfs/me) I have done ok I think £31.44 total spends on organic veg box order, extras from supermarket, church donation and panic buy of bread:o. We are awash in vegetables and fruit which I am trying to get into the freezer for leaner days so I have cancelled next weeks order of £13.84 which should balance out iyswim

I have 3 cards to make this month and luckily have plenty of cardstock, stickers etc from scrapbooking supplies so that should save me about £6.

On the plus side I have won £10 in a local lottery and £20 of vouchers from pigsback this week! Hoping to use this to cover a birthday present and something to cheer up dd.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Now, how about this...

I stated earlier that I was going to drag out all my old notes from the very first savings challenge I ever did. It was back in 1999 and was named 'The Scottish Pound'. The Challenge was to feed a family of four on a tenner a week. (I had to come up with a one week meal plan and make sure I could complete it in under £10). It seems so funny to be reading about that challenge after such a long time, but now I want to try to do the exact same menu for one week during 2008 to see just how much the various foods have increased in price. Off to type up the meal plan now :)

I'm fascinated by this (how did you manage to feed 4 on £10 a week!) & would be really interested to know how much it costs today.

No spendy day for me today :)

    Spent £2.81 today

    £1 pack of 12 crisps
    £0.96 5 cupa soups
    £0.85 bottle of coke

So I should have enough food for work till pay day (21st) and enough food for dinners too. May be going out for a meal next week but will prob be Pizza Hut so shoul cost much.
