Dehumidifier Choices

I have a Meaco ABC 12ltr & run it year round, but it mainly comes into its own in winter. Has worked faultlessly for 3 years now. I’d recommend it.1

The ABC. Even though it's rated a slightly lower Db there's a lot of people posting online that the Arete is noisier.BUFF said:

I have heard the Arete can be a little noisy in comparison, possibly because of the air purifier.BUFF said:Having recently bought the Arete 12l I would say that if you want it soon stock availability may be your issue ...

I have the Meaco 12L. Best thing I have ever bought.0

Four of the 6 Meacos tested by Which are Best Buys:
- Arete One 25L = 82% score [BB]
- MeacoDry ABC 12L = 79% [BB]
- Platinum 20L low energy 77% [BB]
- Arete 20L = 77% [BB]
- 25L ultra low energy = 73%
- 12L low energy platinum = 67%
For the ABC model, which was reviewed in Jan 2020, they say:
- excellent dehumidifying in heated rooms
- energy efficient compared to many
- very quiet
- like many refrigerants, it's not as effective at lower temps.0 -
I wonder how many people have had the chance to run the 2 side by side & at the same fan speed?shiraz99 said:

I've had the Arete 12l for a few months now. The air purifier is simply a filter that slides in the back. I've taken it out of mine as I don't have any need for it. I did read that removing the air filter lowers the decibels by 4. I've never actually ran it with the filter in but I'll do a test tomorrow to see if there's a discernible difference. As it stands its a quiet machine. Ours is in the kitchen and with the door closed it can't be heard. When in the kitchen it just sounds like a fan, and as.its a constant whirr it becomes background noise.
As for weight it is quite heavy so I wouldn't want to be lifting it too often, but it has a pull up handle and comes with castors so it can be wheeled around."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."1 -
That's the bit I'm concerned about. The marketing spiel for the Arete One say it was designed specifically for the UK market - "Designed in Britain for the British weather," but they wouldn't tell me any more when I emailed them as to how this compressor based dehumidifier is better suited to British homes than the ABC, surely they all work the same and are effected by the same temperature ranges. Sounds more like marketing BS to me.Yorkie1 said:Four of the 6 Meacos tested by Which are Best Buys:- Arete One 25L = 82% score [BB]

I've seen one side by side YT video where the Arete one was noticeably louder. It's not such a huge deal given that I won't have it on in the bedroom or anything.BUFF said:

Yeah, that's the other thing that stands against the ABC, no castors, you have to buy them separately. I've been told they're all coming back into stock soon, mainly to their retailers first (JL, Argos etc) so hopefully they also be reduced a bit during the upcoming Black Friday events.superstylin said:I've had the Arete 12l for a few months now. They give quite extensive extraction rate data info on the individual product pages of their website, the Arete has very, very, very slightly better rates but it's absolutely minimal. I am sure that you would notice little difference between them in practice under the same conditions.shiraz99 said:

I went for the Arete for the 5 year warranty & at the time I could get one for the same/less (£170) than I could find an LE/Platinum in stock (thought that for the little extra might as well get one with purification).
A dessicant dehumidifier would probably perform better in my house which is kept quite cool but would cost 2x as much to run.1
