Didn't fly - still entitled to compensation ?

I'm not expecting a positive outcome but interested if others have experienced

On a recent business trip I had a backup flight from TRN - MAN via AMS in case meetings overran. In the end I didn't need it but our corporate travel team have picked up that the flight was cancelled that day and compensation would be due even though I didn't take it (and it wasn't cancelled/refunded) and want to claim on my behalf

What are the chances of me getting anything ?

Let the corporate team do whatever they wish.

That's probably a different answer from the chances of the corporate travel team getting anything!

In terms of whether they'll make a claim stick, it'll probably depend on exactly when the flight was cancelled - if it was well in advance then there'd be a decent case, assuming it wasn't due to extraordinary circumstances of course, but if it was after scheduled departure time then the fact that you weren't present might come into play.  Was there any airline notification of the cancellation, either to the corporate team or yourself?

We have an agreement that any compensation comes to individuals - offered as a benefit to those of us who travel regularly

On the day I received the communication from KLM and that they'd transferred me to later flight but didn't take much notice as I was already back in UK

But when was the flight cancelled relative to its scheduled departure time, i.e. would you have been expected to have already checked in?  Which leg was cancelled?

More than 1hr - so whilst check-in was still open.

And it was first leg meaning connection wouldn't have been made

Sounds like a decent case then, assuming no extraordinary circumstances.

Update - confirmation this morning that EUR250 is winging its way to me

I've a new business idea for buying cheap flights that may be cancelled/delayed - this one was only EUR130 so left me EUR120 up on the deal - not quite what the regulators had in mind

That is why the UK government are proposing to change the law to follow rail's delay repay scheme, with compensation based on the original cost of the ticket

Isn't that proposal specifically about UK domestic flights though (which aren't often mentioned on here), or were you thinking of something other than this?

The original plan was indeed just for domestic flights but the delightful Jacob Rees Mogg has begun the bonfire of all EU-based law, including EU261, the Bill has already had its second reading and is now on its way to the committee stage. There will be an attempt to derail the plans but of course, right now it appears anti EU feeling is pretty rife in government and if it goes, and the deadline is fixed for 31st December 2023, then the delay repay plans may be all that is left for all flights out of the UK.
