Interesting!!!
I haven't done this as part of a group before but have normally had the literal piggy bank. Yes, ceramic pig with the slot in the back into which one drops coins!! This is the receptacle of change found in pockets on returning home from shopping. OH in particular is prone to using cash still so is the largest contributor but it's my pig so I tend to claim the profits!!! And occasionally it will be dipped into if we are ordering a take away and need some change for a tip. Or for when we know we are going somewhere cash will be preferred.
I've been doing this generally for more decades than I care to mention - initially, pre pig, I had a large and very heavy glass bottle which I tried to fill as much as possible. Given that it was a good 2 feet wide and 3 feet high I never managed more than a small fraction - but that was maybe $150. Here in the UK it's been the pig (wonder where that bottle went to......) and I think the most I've managed is £120.
So this year I'd like to get up to £150 at least. But let's be wild and aim for £1 a day as suggested. So that's £365 for me please. Boosted by the fact that I haven't emptied the pig this year - normally it would have been done to help finance festive frivolities. So I may very well have £30+ in there already. And I think there's a bag of pennies in the drawer....
(I was very mature a few years back and set up a regular saver account but it wasn't as much fun as hefting the pig occasionally, marveling at the increase in weight and then having the thrill of counting it all up end Nov/beginning Dec. It's the little things that add to life.....)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
