    Hi,
When my cat went missing I put posters in shops & also put leaflets through doors in the immediate area.
This is something we did when our persian went missing and we got a call straight away from someone to say they had found what they initially thought was a wild animal injured in their greenhouse. He had been struck by a car and tried to make his way home as the greenhouse was at the end of our garden. He survived minus one eye but was still a beautiful boy.

  • Hi
my cat went missing early this year and the best bit of advice I got and I belive it worked, was If your cat had a favorite blanket or even an old t-shirt that belongs to you, anything with your scent on,cut it up into 1 inch squares and leave a trail in your area. If your cat is in the area of that trail he will be able to follow the scent on the squares and lead him back home.
    Good Luck
  • Start putting food out. My mum's friend's cat went missing for about 6 weeks, I said to her that she should put food out for the cat and see what happens. She did what I advised, and she now has her cat back. Took some coaxing to get him back into the house. But he's home safe and well now; albeit a tad skinnier.

They had moved into a new bungalow too just before he went missing, and she was frightened he may have tried to find his way back to the old house. Luckily, he must have stayed in the area and came searching for food. Only change is that he now likes to be out early morning till quite late at night, obviously he's gotten used to roaming about. It's no hassle, she's just glad to have him home.

    Good luck :)
  • One other bit of advice I read somewhere was if your cat uses a litter tray & goes missing to throw some of the used litter round your garden so your cat can get its scent. Not very nice I know but makes sense ( you could even get some out of the bin if you were feeling particularly brave!)

I hope this has a happy ending. It happened to me too years ago. I went around pestering all the neighbours and my cat was found hiding under the floorboards in a cellar. Do you have cellars near you? I would say don't be afraid to keep on asking people and put his name on the missing info as my cat was found when the house's owner went to the basement and called his name. The bloke told me he'd been in the cellar before to look as well, but hadn't known what to call. Cats get really scared when they are locked in and hunker down, not calling out.
All the very best of luck.

Thank you for all your kind and hopeful replies, however we got a call this evening from a lady who had seen our advert in the shop this afternoon. She said she had found a young black cat dead in her back garden this morning, she didn't look closely at it as she noticed no collar (but she covered it over quickly as she has two young children and didn't want them to see it) she phoned the council to dispose of it and only a few hours later saw our flyer.

It is a house not very far from ours on the adjoining street....Although it is not 100% that it was Mario it is not looking good, I am so upset.

I will phone the council first thing monday morning to see if they took a description of the cat before taking it away.

    I'm so sorry,
I know when my cat went missing I was devastated.
I also found that some people just did not understand the attachment and felt like punching those who said 'It's just a cat!'

Once you deal with the initial grief it's better than the cat still being missing and wondering if he's roaming, lost, cold and hurt somewhere.
    sending lots of love

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    Thank you....

I just feel so guilty, My husband is really upset about it as mario was kind of a daddy's boy.... followed dh round like a litle sheep (which is why this has happened.) He also blames me.... I feel like I have made everyone miserable.

I can't stop crying every time I think that this cat probably was Mario that they found, and he might have been trying to find his way home, hungry scared and cold, and froze to death around the corner...

I miss him like crazy, he was so affectionate and a right little character.

Will find out tomorrow if it was him. Well if the council have bothered to note down a description of any kind.

    Mel,

    I'm so sorry.

There is no point in blaming yourself or anyone, cats are free spirits that do what they want to do.

I know he can't be replaced, but remember in January you might be able to give a good home to another cat.
