Getting name taken off ex-dh insurance policy

  • Good advice. I will write to them.
As for my policy, I made sure that I was the only named driver and not a named driver on another policy. Honesty is the best policy I think. (No pun intended).

Everything is still registered here. Had bills from his health insurance, parking ticket, speeding ticket, every single thing.

I know it shouldn't cause me any problems with being on his policy but it does p*ss me off that it may bring his premium down. Considering I can't even get any child maintenance because, yet again, I need an address for him. So it's becoming more of a matter of principle now.

It wont, rather than shouldnt. The only problem it could cause is your ex resurfacing asking you for your help regards their insurance but maybe that gives you leverage rather than a problem
  • Thanks DGG. You did explain that before and that's what I meant. It won't cause me problems thank goodness.

I don't know if you can do anything directly about being a named driver though it's likely fraudulent too.
It's not fraudulent too add someone as a named driver, even if they don't actually drive the car or even if they don't want to be a named driver. By adding someone as a named driver all you are doing is asking that they be covered to drive the car of they ever do. You don't usually have to make any declarations about how often they drive it or even whether they do at all, so there's no question of making a false declaration and therefore no question of fraud.

If the OP wants to insist that the insurance company remove her as a named driver the only grounds that I can see that might work are something along the lines of data protection/retaining her data against her wishes. Other than that I can't see any grounds she would have per se for objecting to the fact that her ex husband wants a policy that would cover her if she ever did drive his car. He could achieve the same thing by buying an any driver policy, and there would certainly be nothing she could do about that.

Of course of she reports him for fairly declaring the address at which the vehicle is kept the insurer might cancel his policy altogether, in which the problem goes way.
  • Got a new V5C to my home today. After his accident a couple of weeks ago he has changed his car. Going to try to contact the DVLA and let them know he is no longer at this address.
Oh, and another parking charge notice.

At least I know what car he is driving now.

Might be worth having a word with police. As clearly he is avoiding fines etc.

Does no one you know where he might be living?

If they ain't com knocking I wouldn't bother, it's easier for them just to place a marker on the car and let the anpr find him.

Just put the V5 back in the envelope marked not known at this address and post it back.
  • I think that's what I'm going to do. Just post it back to the DVLA.
It does worry me a bit that I am opening his post, but as I am paying all the bills I need to know what things are registered to our address.
So the letters will all have obvious signs of having been opened.
I won't be bothering the police with it. They have enough to do and while it is a pita, it's not causing anyone else harm.

If you know his new address, you can always transfer the V5 to him online. It'll add an extra keeper to the car but means any paperwork would go directly to him.
