Yes and its using the cheapest kit they could buy from the Chinese (Huawei).Perhaps it is possible that the kit is produced more cost-effectively in China. It doesn't really matter if it's the cheapest kit, so long as it does the job properly.
Don't know if either of you have dealt with Huawei, but they are excellent - there kit and capability is very good - as it should be they power most of china mobiles (the world’s biggest operator) network and yes having very cheap very well educated labour does help a lot (although none of them thought to remove ""C" cisco systems" from there lan switch's))
21CN does nothing for broadband access speeds and BT isn't going to lay fibre to the kerb or door until it gets a big fat taxpayer cheque from the government. So what this petition should be entitled is something along the lines of "we the undersigned agree to proved huge bonuses to BT management at the cost of police, health care and education and extend its monopoly in the uk."0 -

I think the more appropriate one would be;
'We the undersigned agree that more competitors should invest in the network'
If they really want to put two fingers up at BT then they need to be putting their own system in place. Then & only then will the public know if BT are that bad that they're willing to go over to another company for their telecommunications & it'll show in a drop in users!0 -

Tell that to all the British employees who no longer have jobs due to BT's anti British purchasing policies, of course it matters as the technical expertise is lost to this country.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Indeed. It may well make commercial sense to forced down the margins made by Western telecommunications manufacturers but eventually there will be no local design expertise and capability to build and manage an important component of our national infrastructure.
Who would encourage their son or daughter to pursue a career in engineering? It's dead!I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

BT, like any other company are right and correct to source their product from whoever and wherever they can get it made most cost-effectively. That way the business remains competitive and it is sustainable as an entity.
Years ago, BT was joined to the Post Office and was state owned. It regularly turned in a loss year on year. That meant that the UK tax payer had to prop it up. That’s no longer the case and instead BT pays money into the UK tax coffers. Which way would you rather it be?
The world economy is under a constant state of flux. We all know that heavy engineering is on the move to the far east. This is because it is cheaper to have it made there. The reason it's cheap is because salaries are generally lower, and so is the cost of living. In years to come, the people in the far east will start to demand better standards of living and this will cause the prices of the goods they produce to rise as they get wise and take their employers to task by formation of unions etc. At that point they may not look quite as competitive as they do today. Is this not a familiar pattern of events?0 -

sorry didn't what was left of Marconi go to Ericsson's? The SDH and fibre kit was amongst the best in the world - it now just carries a different badge - I don't think any of the operational centres where moved (from the west mids)0 -
Services business became Telent,(based at NCP Coventry) what was left of the Transmission business is now Ericsson.
Full circle for those still at Beeston as the site was originally LM Ericsson.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
