Husband and I both eligible and previously got winter fuel allowance. He has had a letter to say he will get £250 cost of living payment but I thought it would be £200 WFA..£100 each plus £300 cost of living =£500. Will I also get a letter awarding £250? Otherwise we are only £50 more than last year if only 1 of us gets a letter. Can't get through to DWP

    Hi,
yes, couples get individual payments, did that not happen last winter with WFA?

I don’t wish to criticise but this information is readily available on the Government website. There really shouldn’t be a need to ring DWP.

In fairness to the OP, the words Winter Fuel Allowance and Cost of Living payment are being mis-quoted by the Press. The two payments - although amalgamated are separate. The Cost of Living payment is a ‘one off’ add on to the WFA.
  • I have looked at all the information including the table so essentially I am asking from that table does an couple eligible only receive a total of £250?

each individual in the couple receives the payment they are eligible for on the table. thats why the first one is live alone for double the amount of the others. every couple will get 500 to 700

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • I thought last year only my husband got notification about the winter fuel payment which was payment for both of us but I can't remembet!

Winter Fuel Allowance has always been paid on an individual basis. DWP payment notifications to couples rarely come together. My wife got her letter last week, and I am still waiting for mine.

Over recent years, we have become a very impatient society with constant demands for instant answers: often the answers are widely available from a number of authoritative online sources. Even my wife who is a technophobe manages to find/research information on things on the Web that matter to her. The Government may be poor at a lot of things but it has a very good and informative website.

My wife has been doubly disappointed.

65 last month as she once expecting her pension at 60 , she has realised she will miss the 2023 qualifying date in September 2023
