Demand Flexibility Service allows households to participate in DSR for the first time

Article from Watt-Logic explaining the scheme in more detail and how the much quoted £100/ household is calculated. Also concerning observations on the financial stability of Octopus. I am already £300 in credit and like many others on here could see that credit increase with the £66/month government subsidy going into my account each month.

Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)

The good  news is that the  time slots are only  1 hour, time to pop out to pub. From  what i heard octopus have no financial problems if they did they wouldn't of  been allowed to take on bulbs customers. If the worse did happen your credit  would be guaranteed by the government as in previous cases.

Looks like there's a Saving Session tomorrow between 17:00 and 18:00. I didn't get any kind of notification, but I happened to click the link in the app and saw it was counting down.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to save as my usage is generally pretty low, but let's see how it goes. £2.25 per kWh saved.

I've opted in, but I've a suspicion that my consumption in that slot is usually very close to zero so the chance of me saving anything is vanishingly small!

I've actually used some electricity at that time in the last couple of days because we've had dense fog and no solar generation. Hopefully they'll get counted in the "10 day average" Octopus mentioned.

We might manage 10p worth of credit  :D

Literally just had the email, I'll just have dinner a bit later.

  • Me too. Not sure I can save much but at least as Tuesday is training night I'll have had a light bite and, more importantly, a cuppa earlier.

I suppose I could get the Kelly kettle out for an additional, oh so important cuppa, and I won't be posting on here... :-)
  • Any idea what the reason for the Octopus Saving Session later today is? Having woke up this morning to the sounds of not insignificant wind outside, I had a look at carbonintensity.org.uk Although 5-6pm this evening isn't expected to be low carbon intensity, it also isn't where today's peak is anticipated.

So I started wondering if anyone on here knows. I wondered if it could be testing the response, or an attempt to shift peak demand so it doesn't cooincide with wind generation falling off? Or something totally different that I haven't thought of.

The initial sessions seem to be test/demonstration sessions designed to test the process, rather than reduce demand (yet), and makes sense to do a few tests first when demand isn't high.

    https://www.nationalgrideso.com/electricity-explained/electricity-and-me/esos-demand-flexibility-service

The ESO, together with electricity suppliers and aggregators, has launched a new Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) for this winter, which will incentivise consumers and businesses to reduce their power consumption at certain times.

If needed, this new service will help the ESO avoid using its emergency responses if electricity supplies are impacted.

To ensure that there is a benefit for consumers if supplies are unaffected this winter, the ESO will run a maximum of 12 demonstration tests with each electricity supplier and aggregator between November and March 2023.

These demonstration tests will have a guaranteed minimum price of £3KWh, meaning that a typical household could save approximately £100 across the maximum 12 demonstration tests.
