Gas meter/bills

gas is measured in volume units (on the pictures in the thread there in cubic meters others are in cubic feet) so you convert to kwh using a formula thats normally printed on your bill. for meters its m3 × Calorific Value × 1.02264 ÷ 3.6 = kWhccluedo said:
Can I ask how you worked that out for future reference ? The numbers in the OP give usage of 155. How do they translate that into KWh pls?pochase said:This month they used in average 62KWh per day (£186.41 / 1736KWh)
the actual math can change every month as the amount of energy (calorific value) in gas isnt always the same but a rough calculation is to times it by 11.2.
155 times 11.2 is 1736 then divide by the number of days between the readings to get 62
so they might find the number on there bill when they get it isnt exactly the same as pochase says but it should be close.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.3 -

As previous posters have said, that is massive gas consumption. If you can give some more info, we can probably help your friends reduce that, without too much discomfort.Eg:
What sort of house?
How many occupants?
At home all day or out at work?
Do they heat the whole house to ‘tropical’ level, even unused rooms, 24/7?
Do they have a room thermostat? If so, where is it?
What is it set at?
Do radiators have thermostats? If so, what are the set at?
Can they afford & are they prepared to pay a gas bill of approx £4400 based on current rates?1 -
Thanks everyone for your input.
I have passed all comments on.
Fortunately for them they can afford the bills but were still taken aback by increase in their DD. That's obv how they like to live/spend their money but at least they have started reducing a little since Oct 1st.
They only asked for my help to work out the billing and now that has been passed on they will be doing regular readings themselves.
Thanks again.2 -
It the matter comes up again in conversation that just say to them that the £100 basket of energy that they bought in September would today cost them £250 today. It goes a long way towards explaining why DD payments have increased and, sadly, could go higher next April.2
