Made my first pot of the year at £2. Funny how hearing that hollow coins in the tin sound makes me excited - I really need to get out more 😂. I'm looking forward to when it doesn't have that tin sound and it's just coins landing on coins. Roll on the savings...Debt Free Diary:- The Mental Debt Struggle

Hello @Sue-UU and fellow potters! Thanks for the warm welcome. I counted my 'forgot all about them' piggy banks last night and there was a smidgen over £8, so I'm starting with that. I put them away because there was very little use for cash during lockdown etc then forgot about them. So the contents aren't this year's, but I'm using them as 'seed money' (if that's allowed?)My pot's a white plastic bucket repurposed from its former use as a container for 1kg of bi-carb. It's recycled - so not new plastic - which has got to be better than putting it in the bin and it was easy to cut the slot in the lid. It might not be big enough, but we'll see! £3 in pennies take up an awful lot of space! It looks like I'll have to have physical and electronic pots. I've got a couple of Save the Change bank accounts, so I'll use 1 of them to, well, save the change on debit card payments, and also to transfer any amounts saved on multiple buys especially when delivered/paid by card. There are some excellent ideas on here for adding to the cash: surveys, once-off payments and (of course) road kill. I think I'll need to use my previous piggy banks as kind of holding cells in case I need change for parking meters etc then dump the whole lot in the bucket, maybe once a week.If I do that, do I need to count it first? It seemed to me that some people didn't, but those with a specific target were more likely to. I'm not expecting to pot huge amounts, but I'd like it to be a surprise - the cash bit at least.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

#20 here again. First £2 coin went in the tin yesterday. I needed one in order to make up the bag to bank the ones from last year's challenge (although when I'll get round to it, who knows?!) and my mum owed me for a couple of bits of shopping so she gave me 2. One went in the bag and the other went in the pot. It's almost pointless saving the coins now, but it's so ingrained, I just can't bring myself to spend them and still only part with them in emergencies!!SPCNo.18 #20 (17 £562.86 16 £678; 15 £1120.92; 14 £416.53; 13 £191.52; 12 £260.48; 11 £480.95; 10 £682.31; 9 £442.64)4

I don't spend my £2 coins unless it's an emergency either @MrsShazbat. I've paid for plenty of holidays that way. I try not to break 50ps either. I have two tins this year, one for 50p, £1 and £2 and one for 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p. The higher valued coins will go towards a holiday and the lower valued coins will go towards debt. I'm going to start the penny challenge as well and set that money aside in a locked pot within my Monzo account. Not sure how far I'll get with it, but I know it'll be worth it.
I've potted a further £4.15 yesterday but forgot to declare.Debt Free Diary:- The Mental Debt Struggle
