I would have thought MSE would have headlined that - or did I miss it ?
The Rewards product is different to the one mentioned by the OP, which appears to be a long withdrawn legacy product (albeit one with similar benefits).

I've just semi-reluctantly parted company with my 0.5% Barclaycard. 100,000 Avios was too good an opportunity to miss.
100,000 Avios = 160,000 Nectar Points when converted. 2 Nectar Points = 1p. That makes £800 for shopping in Sainsburys for example, a very good opportunity indeed!

Do you have a link to that product please?

*EDIT* Nevermind, I've found it - I was looking in the wrong website section
It's an affiliate deal on Head for Points I think, requires that you are eligible for Premier Banking too.

And yeah, I agree. I had been reluctant to move over to the free Avios product (even though 0.8% back in Nectar points is a better deal than 0.5% cashback, IMO) because it was my only remaining Visa Credit card and I didn't wan't to miss out on the Barclaycard Visa rewards. £700 (after all fees etc are considered) is way more than I'd make in any reasonable amount of time however.

I will perhaps open the Asda card next time they have an offer to ensure I still have a Visa Credit option.
  • I have a cashback platinum Barclaycard, I must have had for 15 ? years. 0.5% cashback on everything + an extra 1.5% on supermarket shopping and all fuel purchases. So I get about £200 back every year. I have been expecting for ages that it will get withdrawn.
I have exactly this too. I think Barclaycard guaranteed these benefits "for life", although I have no proof of that now. They recently watered down the benefits a little, still those same percentages but limited to £15 each month for both 0.5% and 1.5%, still worth it though......!

Platinum Barclaycard - Platinum Visa - Barclaycard (archive.org)

I can't see any reference to 'for life'?

We had this quite a bit on the banking forums when Lloyds and TSB removed their fee waiver on Gold and Platinum accounts. The reality is nothing lasts forever and 15 years is a pretty good innings, especially as for the last 6 years Barclaycard would have been earning no more than 0.3% on interchange (likely less as Visa/Mastercard take their slice).

Oh, I'm not complaining! I don't remember the exact wording but I'm pretty certain that the cashback was guaranteed to be at the agreed levels "indefinitely" or something similar. I suspect that's why I still have such an anomalous benefit in this day and age, as I say Barclaycard are eroding it subtly, without changing the percentages.

Just as an aside, I still remember years back calling them up and asking how they defined "supermarket" in regards to the extra 1.5% cashback. The guy on the other end of the phone then proceeded to explain to me what a supermarket was -"......it's like a shop but bigger, that sells everything you might need from milk to pampers"!

I've a Barclaycard reward with 0.5% cashback as well, originally ported from a company they took over - possibly egg. I don't get the supermarket spend however.

At one point it was a duo card, giving me an amex card at 1% cashback and a visa at 0.5%, so they have changed the conditions unilaterally over the years.

    A 100,000 Avios bonus

Simply open all of them, or any you don’t already have, between 3 October and 30 November 2022. You’ll need to keep them for at least four months, starting from the date you open the last product. Eligibility and T&Cs apply.

    1. You’ll collect Avios on new purchases, but not on balance transfers, money transfers and transactions that make up your cash balance. These include cash withdrawals, wire transfers and buying currency. You won’t collect Avios for any transactions that are later returned or refunded. You also need to keep to the terms and conditions of your account and stay within your credit limit. You can find out more about collecting and spending Avios, including which purchases are eligible.
    2. Cabin upgrade vouchers must be used on Avios reward flight bookings. Reward flights and cabin upgrades are subject to availability. Taxes, fees and carrier charges per person apply. You can read the additional terms and conditions that apply to using the cabin upgrade voucher

Then we’ll transfer the Avios you collect with us to your British Airways Executive Club account each month. You can check your latest Avios balance in your Barclaycard or Barclays app. Take a look at the terms and conditions of the British Airways Executive Club and check the British Airways privacy policy before you apply.
    4. Reward Flight Saver fares shown are subject to availability. Terms plus up to £9 for your taxes, fees and carrier charges per person apply. Other pricing options are available. 5. You need to be 18 or over to access this product or service using the app. T&C's apply.
    6. You can opt in to Barclays Avios Rewards if you’re a Premier Banking customer or have a personal Wealth current account with us – you’ll need to register for the Barclays app and have a British Airways Executive Club account too. The £12 Avios Premier Rewards scheme monthly payment also gets you 1500 Avios points each month tho, which up to now has covered the cost each month as 1500 Avios is £12 to spend at Argos/Ebay/JS. Unfortunately BA have thrown a spanner in the works by announcing the conversion rate will worsen from Nov 16th, so it'll only be worth £10.05.

You also get a £5 rebate for holding both the Avios Plus card and Avios Premier Rewards, so the net cost of holding both is £16.95/month or £67.80 in total for the 4 months needed to avail of 100,000 Avios. Even with BA nerfing the conversion rate to Nectar it is still a stonking deal.

    Shame that this is over.

Why Bother, Chase is paying 1% cash back, Capital one is also paying 0.5% on foreign transaction. Both are no fee on foreign purchase with MasterCard exchange rate.

    • No section 75 protection
    • No interest-free period between purchase and statement due date
    • Many excluded MCCs
    • Reliability issues
    • Time limited to 12 months
I haven't bothered with Chase yet for these reasons.

I've not heard about this Capital One cashback, I thought they had entirely exited the cashback game?
