RIP Barclaycard Cashback Platinum for everyone?

I've had the Barclaycard Cashback Platinum for years and it had two benefits: 0.25% cashback, and free foreign currency spending. Just got a text that after 31 October all foreign currency spending will end. Are there any alternatives from Barclaycard?

Shame that this is over.

When you say "free foreign currency spending", do you mean a card that doesn't charge FX fees?  If so, Halifax Clarity is one of the old stalwarts, but there is plenty of information on other alternatives here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/travel-credit-cards/

Hasn't it now become the BarclayCard Rewards Card? You can change in app.

    Your Barclaycard at a glance

    • Get 0.25% cashback on your everyday spend*

On new purchases that you make. Terms and conditions apply which you can find in the important information section below.

    • No fees abroad

You’ll be able to withdraw cash from an ATM or buy your souvenirs without any charges and benefit from Visa’s competitive exchange rate.

    • Protection on purchases over £100

If there’s a problem, you could be covered for a refund – that’s a feature that comes with every UK credit card (conditions apply).

Official SOS Club number 004 - Dry until (05.01.10)
  • Yes, but that hasn’t yet been updated to reflect the Barclaycard withdrawal.

I have a cashback platinum Barclaycard, I must have had for 15 ? years. 0.5% cashback on everything + an extra 1.5% on supermarket shopping and all fuel purchases. So I get about £200 back every year. I have been expecting for ages that it will get withdrawn.

Yeah, i also got this text and also said i could switch to a different card. I don't have apps, so i contacted Barclaycard to see if i could switch to the Barclaycard Rewards credit card. After 1.5hr waiting on call, they told me i wasn't eligible.
Will prob use Halifax Clarity or Virgin debit card now for foreign purchases/withdrawals

Received our replacement Rewards cards today.
Nothing enclosed to flag up a change of Ts and Cs when used abroad.
I would have thought MSE would have headlined that - or did I miss it ?

The Rewards product is different to the one mentioned by the OP, which appears to be a long withdrawn legacy product (albeit one with similar benefits).

I've just semi-reluctantly parted company with my 0.5% Barclaycard. 100,000 Avios was too good an opportunity to miss.

Yes, download the app and switch to a Reward Card.  You get the same perks, just without the Platinum name. Oddly enough my statement says the offer (0.25% cash back, and 0% overseas) expires on 31 August 2023, but I still got that text!  I phoned to query that, but when the wait time was advised as 60 mins I just swapped to the Rewards Card.

I had the same text recently too and my platinum plus card offer wasn’t due to expire until the end of August ‘23 either. I thought it was due to me recently putting in a switch request to the Avios card after my next statement but maybe not.

100,000 Avios = 160,000 Nectar Points when converted. 2 Nectar Points = 1p. That makes £800 for shopping in Sainsburys for example, a very good opportunity indeed!

Do you have a link to that product please?

*EDIT* Nevermind, I've found it - I was looking in the wrong website section
