County Court Letter BW Legal

Hey! Last Christmas I visited the local and totally forgot to put my reg in on the little screen inside! Britannia of course dealt me a fine which I chose to ignore following the advice here I also ignored the debt collection letters to the point where I thought they had gone away! Today another letter lands on the doormat saying im being taken to the county court for £251! What on earth do I do.

You just do what you read in the NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST thread. Second post is all about how to deal with a claim.

And copy what you see in all the other claim threads. Pretty much every thread here is exactly like yours.

I'm a lady, but fair enough.

What's the Date of issue (top right of claim)?

    ...it’s the 19th of October 2022.

With a Claim Issue Date of 19th October, you have until Monday 7th November to file an Acknowledgment of Service but there is nothing to be gained by delaying it.
To file an Acknowledgment of Service, follow the guidance in the Dropbox file linked from the second post in the NEWBIES thread.

Having filed an Acknowledgment of Service in a timely manner, you have until 4pm on Monday 21st November 2022 to file your Defence.
That's four weeks away. Plenty of time to produce a Defence, but please don't leave it to the last minute.
To create a Defence, and then file a Defence by email, look again at the second post on the NEWBIES thread - immediately following where you found the Acknowledgment of Service guidance.
Don't miss the deadline for filing an Acknowledgment of Service, nor that for filing a Defence.

Do not try and file a Defence via the MoneyClaimOnline website. Once an Acknowledgment of Service has been filed, the MCOL website should be treated as 'read only'.

Might sound like a silly question as I’m yet to read the defence section on the newbie thread yet but when emailing a defence who exactly am i emailing.

Yes, the answer to that will become clear when you get around to reading the template Defence thread, but simply, you will be emailing it to the County Court Business Centre - the place that sent you the County Court Claim Form.

Please read the guidance before asking more questions.  ;)
  • Alright I’ve read everything I’m in the process of writing out my defence in amongst the template provided so I’ll post it here once its all written up.

Just post your paragraph 2 & 3 and any that you have added, we don't need to see the rest of the template; just remember to add it back in before sending by e-mail to CCBC.
