I haven't misunderstood - I have my current Shell bill in front of me:Deleted_User said:For my area (Yorkshire) the two tariffs are:
Shell SVT - 49.54p/day & 33.029p/kWh electricity, 28.48p/day & 10.244p/kWh gas
Octopus SVT - 47.90p/day & 33.03p/kWh electricity, 26.84p/day & 10.24p/kWh gas
Nothing like the differences you are claiming.
I still don't think you're moving from one SVT to another, or if you are then you have misunderstood one set of rates.Your tariff ratesElectricityStanding charge: 50.35p per day
Unit rate per kWh: 37.000p
Gas
Standing charge: 33.53p per day
Unit rate per kWh: 11.250pPrices inclusive of VAT
Octopus - confirmed via email:Here is a breakdown of your new tariff.
Electricity:
Standing charge: 42.77 p/day (Including VAT)
Unit rate: 34.23 p/kWh (Including VAT).Gas:
Standing charge: 26.84 p/day (Including VAT)
Unit rate: 10.46 p/kWh (Including VAT).Both are Energy Price Guarantee discounted SVTs - Southern region.

That's a cash/cheque SVT (Shell) compared with a Direct Debit SVT (Octopus).
You would have got the same saving by moving onto Direct Debit at Shell (minus about 4p per day that Octopus discount extra on combined standing charges).0 -
to be fair not the 50 cashback/referal amount. and octopus are often said to have great customer service so prob not a bad place to be.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.2 -
Yes, but the thread was "cheaper prices by moving supplier" - when actually it should have been "£50 cashback for moving supplier"ariarnia said:to be fair not the 50 cashback/referal amount. and octopus are often said to have great customer service so prob not a bad place to be.0 -
Is this anything to do with Octopus not charging different amounts for different payment methods or is that not a thing any more?0

They do again now - because the cap is different for the different payment methods.stewie_griffin said:Is this anything to do with Octopus not charging different amounts for different payment methods or is that not a thing any more?1 -
The Octopus prices are what I'll be paying NON direct debit. I went to great pains to clarify that with them when I called. I realise it would be more convenient if I was stupid, but I can confirm that I am indeed in possession of a brain[Deleted User] said:That's a cash/cheque SVT (Shell) compared with a Direct Debit SVT (Octopus).

So we've ascertained that I am going to be getting better rates by switching, and I'll get some nice cashback, and that indeed it IS worth looking to see if you can/should switch, which is why I posted in the first place. The op must have gone from paying by on receipt of bill to paying by DD then.1

Then you are different from every other customer we have heard from on the Octopus SVT, and I congratulate you for getting them to go back on their published statements, blog, and tariff guides, that all say they have different prices for DD and non-DD following the introduction of the SVT.CookieRose said:
