You CAN switch suppliers

Fed up with my supplier not being transparent about various things, I decided to investigate switching. The word on the street still seems to be to stay as you are if you're not on a fixed tariff, as you're unlikely to save by switching - NOT NECESSARILY TRUE!
I have just switched our dual fuel and will be saving 15p/day (for both combined) on standing charges alone. Unit rates are slightly cheaper by 2.5p and 0.5p, but it all helps.
Even better, used my Mum's referral code and we'll both now get a one off £50 credit too.

The word on the street is often incorrect.
The word on the forum has been very different - with people pointing out for weeks now that you can still switch and that in some cases it will be beneficial to you (particularly on E7 splits but also on standing charges a little bit).
I'd be surprised if there was a 2.5p discount on unit rates though - that wouldn't agree with any of the tariffs we've seen here. 15p per day is also a big change in standing charge too - most seem to be about 2p per fuel.
Are you sure you're comparing the same things - we're talking about SVT from one company to another?0 -
From who to who ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Are you sure you’ve not compared prices including VAT with prices excluding VAT. Please provide more details.0

is it only me that thinks this feels like a 'wow what referral code' and it turns out its utility warehouse?

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.3 -

I just hope that the switch isn’t to Tracker based on recent prices. There is a lot of gas around at the moment that no one is using or can store so prices are depressed.0

Current supplier is Shell, moving to Octopus (well done those who guessed Octopus!) both on SVT (having been with a supplier that went bust last year). The referral code is Octopus customer referral - they offer £50 each for the existing and the new customer. However, I did have to ask for this as it's nearly impossible to find on the website, even when logged into the existing account (I'm a named contact on my mum's account as she's elderly and widowed).
Standing charge is cheaper by 7.58p/day for electricity, and 6.69p/day for gas - so I did round up a little (apologies!) the savings in standing charges will be 14.27p/day, which I think is quite a difference.
Unit rate is cheaper by 2.75p/unit for electricity, and 0.79p/unit for gas - I rounded down there it seems!
All prices are inclusive of VAT at 5%.1 -
For my area (Yorkshire) the two tariffs are:
Shell SVT - 49.54p/day & 33.029p/kWh electricity, 28.48p/day & 10.244p/kWh gas
Octopus SVT - 47.90p/day & 33.03p/kWh electricity, 26.84p/day & 10.24p/kWh gas
Nothing like the differences you are claiming.
I still don't think you're moving from one SVT to another, or if you are then you have misunderstood one set of rates.0 -
