Thanks for the link. As we currently don’t use much during the time period mentioned (16.30 - 18.30) there seems little point registering interest. Apart from curiosity of course.Chrysalis said:Only two suppliers interested, and its well hidden away on Octopus website, I actually had to google it with some specific words, one also has to apply to take part. No wonder they said not many were interested, I expect most dont even know the scheme exists.
Its not mentioned on Octopus website whether it requires a specific tariff, but has been mentioned on MSE that to benefit from this you need high peak hours load in the first place, if you already light at peak, you have little to shift.
The apply link is here.

Same here. We use very little energy after lunch (main meal), so no scope to cut back further during peak time. Unless we sit in the dark, not watching TV 😉
I'd still be interested in knowing the details of the Eon scheme, as I have family who could benefit.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Many years ago I took part in a Midlands Electricity (MEB) trial tariff called Weekend Plus, for which I had to have a 3 rate meter installed.
From memory, the three rates were:- Monday to Friday daytime - more expensive than the standard single rate tariff;
- Monday to Friday evenings, plus Saturday & Sunday daytime and evenings - a reduced rate tariff
- Monday to Sunday overnight - a heavily reduced rate tariff, equivalent to Economy 7.
This could be supplemented by tariffs like Agile Octopus, for those who want to benefit from a more complex set up.

From all these schemes, which effectively benefit those who have historically had excessive use, especially at peak times, I think the sooner everyone is moved to ToU tariffs the better, with any refusing put on the maximum peak rate permanently.0

i'm not a huge fan of tou tariffs because i have seen screen shots which show you can't really predict that far in advance when the cheap times will be and because i prefer the certainty of a fixed rate price to help predict our bills. i wouldn't mind a tariff like the hawk describes. maybe an option would be for people to have a high and low peak rate with timings set for them or in their load block area (now i know what those are!) so we didn't just shift the peak to a different time but staggered it around the country?
so i might have cheapest energy sun-tues evenings and someone else might have cheapest thurs-sat. still helping load manage but also being more predictable for the customer than something that changes every day.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

The link doesn't seem to be an application for a specific scheme, just an expression of interest in joining any future scheme once it's announced.badger09 said:

Most of the info on the page relates to the scheme/s that ran last winter.

Yes, I realise that. Nothing to lose by registering interest I guess.QrizB said:

So people that are always considerate with how much energy they use will not gain anything but people who are not considerate with their energy use will gain?1

People who are always considerate with how much energy they use have been gaining for years by not wasting money.Helen_ said:So people that are always considerate with how much energy they use will not gain anything but people who are not considerate with their energy use will gain?5 -
yep. just the same as lots of other things the government do because they need a group of people to change their behavior. the point is to reduce energy use because its an emergency. not give free money to people who do good. it would be very nice for the prudent to be rewarded but we havent exactly got the spare money right now.Helen_ said:So people that are always considerate with how much energy they use will not gain anything but people who are not considerate with their energy use will gain?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.
