@LittleMissDetermined ,, I've seen a woman on FB that I follow, talk about zip lock bags.  You can buy silicone ones apparently, not just the plastic ones. I wouldn't use plastic ones unless I could reuse them.

@2Scratters, would be interested to know how much extra electric it costs you. Suppose it depends on its age, as newer ones are more energy friendly.

Ok....silly question....Has anyone ever tried microwaving breadcrumbed fish?  Does it make it go all soggy? Just trying to save putting oven on just for fish.

I think it would go soggy in a microwave unless you have one with a grill. Could you pan fry it to crisp it up? I always cook mine in the air fryer though.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

Yes, I thought it might go soggy. I think I will fry it, will be cheaper energy. I really must get an air fryer.  WE keep talking about one....its on my "to get" list, along with a cordless vac, a new sofa, some new clothes and new bedding, among other things. ...lol

One of the things I am most looking forward to when we (finally) move is hopefully having space for an air fryer...!

I've just checked our second freezer energy use @2Scratters - it's a pretty standard undercounter one and although I'm not sure exactly what age it is, I know it's over 13 years old. At the moment it's pretty full and is using in the region of 0.6kWh per day.

That's not bad energy use @EssexHebridean, especially as you say, it is 13 years old. Although having just worked that out, that is about £62 a year?  Seems a lot when put like that. But if it saves money on the food bill, then its worth it.

Thanks @EssexHebridean for the heads up on usage. Ours hasn't got a lot in it at the moment so that needs rectifying quickly it needs to earn its keep I'd better feed it with something.
As I am trying to future proof into retirement and really not loving my job anymore and needing the pennies to stash I need to be more on the ball.

Fill it with slow-cooker batch cooking... I'd love a bigger freezer for mine!

Just to say I am still here.  Not posted for a bit as been a bit busy with family stuff but will be back soon with an update of how things are doing and hopefully a plan for the future. We have cheapo caravan holiday coming up in June, so hoping to start my major debt busting plan after that. There just seems to have been a few things lately that got in the way of savings pots and OP's on mortgage etc. Now that income is being increased in the summer, I think I should be able to formulate a better plan of how do get things sorted. I've started a better planner and a few lists, so fingers crossed.   Even when I've made extra money on surveys etc, I've needed it for things.....ooh real life gets in the way sometimes....lol.
Hope you're all doing ok, and thanks for reading as usual. x
