I keep looking at the freecycle site, but can't get through far enough to see any ads and it seems I have to open a yahoo account to get any further??? Is this right, or am I having a 'thickie, techie, moment'?

I run a freecycle group. My dd is at uni and has a laptop. She spilt water on it the other day and has a pile of assignments to be compleed by next week.

Best bet is to take the covers off and try to dry it out in the airing cupboard as a first step.

You may find that this solves the problem as there will almost certainly be moisture around it.

Then if you can, give the motherboard a clean with a lint free cloth and some IPA Isopropen alcohole, a well used cleaning aid in pcb manufacture and repair. Be very careful not to apply too much pressure when doing it.

Alternitively, does your household insurance cover the damage, or were you conned into taking out extended warranty that has damage insurance when you bought it??

  • No insurance on the laptop-got to check household one but i dont think accidental damage is covered. Problem is that dd went and switched it on while it was wet! I think this has caused damage which we may have got away with otherwise. Any ideas where I can buy the IPA Isopropen?

Am getting a bit annoyed this week with Freecycle in my area - have offered 4 items this week and only had 3 what I would class as 'polite' responses so far - 'please' is something that I always put in response to any ads; what is this thing with 'have you still got this' - no greeting, name, salutation or anything or am I just getting old? Lol. Time to go back to the charity shop me thinks

 l give away and have been lucky enough to recieve thing on freecycle
l find its a great way to pass on unwanted items
l have been clearing out a cupboard a day this week
    and have put loads on
but two people (would love to name them) really have annoyed me
 l offered the first person bag of kidsbooks/videos/small bag of toy, when he came to collect l had managed to fill a large blue ikea bag plus 4 large shopping bags with loads off kids things . (this was just two weeks ago) this week he sent me an email about an item l had kids games "could not buy my child anything for christmas could he have this?" nope he could not l have checked back on emails and everything l have offered he has asked for with a sob sorry:mad: and he has only ever offered one thing

 the other person asked for something l said ok made arrangements for collection, l then recieved an other email off him (l had listed quite a few items) "l will also collect the other items you have offered while l am there"
