Thanks for spotting that @newlywed, better not change it now though, or your post won't make sense.
Just finishing tea. Went for leeks rather than onions, as we have a glut! Made jelly with raspberries in for pudding.

I have to say I’m in awe of how you can be bothered to cook, and properly, every single night. As soon as the kids aren’t here I’ll be eating beans on toast just so I don’t have to think about food.

Hi, @beckstar1975. The problem is I've still got children here, and now grandchildren too. We prefer to eat fairly healthy stuff. Occasionally DD1 and DS-I-L cook for us all. They tend to go heavy on the meat and lax on the vegetables. When they, eventually, finish building their house next door, I may well cut down a bit. We are both happy to eat the same meal more than once, so i may only cook every other day. But they have to finish the build first!
Not yet decided what's for tea today yet, will have to get my thinking cap on.

Well, yesterday turned out to be a @beckstar1975 kind of day. DD and S-i-L took the children to town for remembrance parade. OH and I had leftover pork and beans casserole for lunch. By the time they got back, the children are starving, so DD cooked pizza for them. By tea time, having not long eaten, we all had a simple tea of beans on toast.
Still not spent any more money, but we are now on the last bottle of milk again! Will get some today or tomorrow.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxx

Hi all. For tea last night I opened the chicken "ribz" from the cash and carry, last week. They were not, as I'd thought from feeling them through the plastic, a sort of burger. But flavoured, skinless, chicken thighs. Not bad, but i don't think I'll bother buying them again, once these are gone. Meat with bones in is difficult for the little ones. This is the problem with buying from the cash and carry reduced section. Most things are bought unseen, and often without any label. With them we had potatoes, peas, HG broccoli, and carrots. For dessert i made toffee apples, which the grandchildren and OH loved, using HG apples.
I've put the ham i was making in the slow cooker. This will be tea today or tomorrow.
Bit colder here today so porridge for breakfast, need milk today!

Blimey - you made toffee apples??? Hats off!
Agree about the bones, and whilst I know they add flavour etc I'm getting more and more squeamish about bones myself - the boys will literally chew the gristle off drumsticks, I can't even pull the meat off with my teeth - have to pull the meat off first and then eat it.
I've woken with covid - was away at a conference and then long train ride last week so inevitable - why the trend is for big rooms with no opening windows I don't know. Anyway I can't taste so not sure whether I'll then go and spend money to try and find taste or just give up on food . .:eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20174 -
Oh no, @beckstar1975, poor you. I hope your not too I'm with it, and get your sense of taste back soon. The silver lining might be less food shopping though.
Toffee apples are really easy to make. Three ingredients, sugar, to make the toffee, apples, and ice lolly sticks. I use a sugar thermometer, that my dad used when we were children. He said his dad had used it when he was a child. It could be 90-100 years old. Mercury filled and in Fahrenheit.
Been out for milk, £3.40 for two x 4 pint bottles. Walked to the petrol station for it. Mile round trip. Slightly more than the price in town, but no fuel costs, and no other spending.
Off to get some washing out, hugs, mumtoomany.xxx

See - I think a sugar thermometer is what I need - very envious of your original mercury one. There is something lovely about using items (especially kitchen items like jam pans, biscuit cutters etc) that others have used before you.
V sensible to walk for both fresh air and to not be tempted by fripperies - I'm sat by an open window and there's a breeze and bright blue skies and it's bliss:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20175 -
