And if you want to tax it from dec 1st I think you may have to SORN it now otherwise you may have to pay tax from the time you acquired it. The rules have all changed now and you can’t acquire the tax left by the previous owner. Just check as it would be annoying to be caught out !1

Hi @Floss and @cbsexec. Thank you both for taking the time to reply. The problem is we bought the car from Mr A who was selling it for his OH. What we didn't know at the time was that Mr A's OH has never registered the car as hers, nor had she taxed if in the time she owned it. The slip from the V5 we were given came from the last time it changed owners. This came to light when we tried to tax it online. The website said that if we printed off a form we could tax if at the post office. The post office said we had to send the form off, and pay £25, to change the owner. Until then we can neither tax nor SORN it. I suppose this could be to prevent fraud of some sort. Mr A, when we spoke to him, said his OH had now sent off to get a V5. The DVLA website is now showing that the car has a change of ownership, don't know if that's us or her, but hopefully the new V5 should be here soon. Watch this space.
We managed to get carrots and potatoes last night, the chemist was open late, and DD and S-i-L were both home, so a choice of cars. I also picked up a lot of cream. Total for these was ,£15.45. We now have 10kgs of carrots and 25kgs of potatoes. Hoping these will see us through, with the addition of more milk, till the end of the month.
Going to raid the freezer, and put a name to tea.

Soooo jealous of your sacks of veg - no such chance around here. Although we have a lovely range of asian and west indian shops nearby so can get good stewing cuts of meat like oxtail - and v cheap spices, rice and exotic veg
I made soup and soda bread yesterday to one comfort me and two use up a lot of veg from our veg box - also the pumpkin I bought for 62p on 1st Nov. My dad had taken pity on me being ill and arrived on doorstep with home made soup and bread - a 3 hour round trip bless him. We ate mine yesterday for lunch and tea (kids ate it all which surprised me considering it was really hot as I put a chilli in in a vain hope to be able to taste it), will eat his for lunch today.
Broken that frugality by getting McDonalds breakfast - 13yo's got an inset day today and I can't take him anywhere as still ill (and testing v positive) so he's happy with a cwtchy day and brekkie
@mumtoomany given your big freezers do you ever freeze milk?:eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20174 -
Hi, @beckstar1975. I was thinking how expensive they are compared to the green grocers. There I would have had change from £10, for the potatoes and carrots.I am, however, jealous of your ethnic shops. Nothing like that round here. Glad your soup went down well.
Tea will be fish pie. White fish, prawns and salmon, can't find the yellow fish, in a white sauce with onions, peas and corn. All topped with mash, like a shepherds pie. Will serve it with cauliflower, because we seem to have loads of it!

Hi, just realised i didn't answer your question @beckstar1975, sorry. Yes i do sometimes freeze milk. The problem is finding space for it! If a bottle of milk takes the same space as a loaf, or as 5 large pizza bases, and the loaf costs 20p rather than £1 or the bases cost 5p rather than ??? who knows, and i'm only saving 25p by not buying milk locally, it seems false economy. I tend to know before i go shopping how much i can cram into the freezers, Aldi or Iceland if it's Tuesday are the last shop i go to. When the amount of pork has gone down a bit more, I'll freeze it more often. The problem then will be remembering to get it back out in time. Hope that answers your question.
Tea was good. Got some pork out to mince, once it's thawed. Will make meatballs. Had a call from DS1, he's coming next friday with his cousin, for the weekend. DD3 is coming thursday, leaving friday to go away with her friend, not sure what day she's back. More mouths to feed. Hope they all like pork!!!!

Back again. Hello all.
For tea I got come chicken pieces out of the freezer, cooked them with a third of a butternut squish and some honey and mustard mix, ( that was well past its best before date). The squash was home grown, only have another five left now! Served with carrots and mash.
The belly pork has now been minced and turned into meatballs.I'll cook them tonight with pasta and a tomato sauce.
I managed to get some more sprouting broccoli plants put out in the tunnel yesterday. I also managed to get bitten, or is it strung? by a red ant! Very painful on my finger.
Tomorrow and Tuesday, both DD1 and S-i-L are working away/late shifts. So only the grandchildren, OH and I to feed. I may see if we have any bits in the freezer to use up.

DD picked up milk, while they were out with the children. £3.30 spent. Now have only £65.93 left, plus the vouchers. 40 days left till the end of the year.
Tonight we will have sausages. I raided the freezer and we have 11, 6 normal ones and 5 thinner longer ones. Not enough for all seven of us, but more than enough for us and the children. I will cook them all, and slice and freeze the spares. They can then be added to the two sliced ones in the freezer, for sausage pasta bake. Strawberries in jelly for afters.

No money spent today. Had porridge and blackberries for breakfast. Cheese on toast for lunch and chilli and rice for tea. Ice lollies for pudding, trying to get them so eaten now, as the weather turns cold.
Heard of two deaths today. A cousin, and nieces step mum. Sad, both well loved, and lovely ladies.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.7 -
Still here. Still no more money spent. Tonight we will be having liver and bacon, cooked with onions. Accompanied by potatoes, carrots and, maybe, broccoli. I'll put some cake in the oven too, whilst its on. Lunch we finished last night's chilli, on toast.
Hugs, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.7 -
Spent a lot of time yesterday, firstly painting the newly plastered walls and secondly chasing two rams, trying to get them to come over to our fields and meet the "ladies". Managed to get them through in the end. The new lambing season starts here.
DD3 dove down yesterday. She's away for the weekend with her friend. She's left her car here, so daddy can fit a new clutch while she's away. So while taking her to friend's house, we called ta the supermarkets. Mince pies (6 boxes) from farmfoods. " packets of "broken" twixes from home bargains, now all individually wrapped. Ham, ketchup, frozen veg, syrup, tomatoes, and reduced lettuce in tesco. Then OH followed me into Aldi! Got plain flour, rice, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, then OH added Stollen, Gluhwein and generic cinnamon grahams. Total for all these was £36.48. Still need milk, Aldi had none left when we got there. DD1 may be in town today, I'll get her to pick some up.
Yesterday, lunch we finished up the liver and bacon. Tea i found three part packs of fish fingers, some white fish, some salmon, some fish "mush", like fish cakes. Just enough for eight of us, with HM chips and peas. Dessert I'd made some shortbread biscuits.
Today DS1 and OH's nephew are coming for the weekend. Tea will be sausage pasta bake, (there were four sausages left the other night and another three, cooked and sliced, in the freezer. Won't be very sausagey!
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.8
