Ready to exchange but solicitor hasn't done ID checks, technical problems!!!!

Options
I wonder if anybody has any advice on my situation.

We started the process of buying a house back in August. All forms were completed, a link was sent to my partner to complete his ID checks which he did, but i never received this. I contacted the solicitor and they said they would chase it up. I have been having that same conversation now every week since mid august. They tell me it is an IT issue and nothing they can do except keep chasing the IT department. Towards the end of September i asked to speak to the manager, i was told they would call within 48 hours, they haven't., I have emailed, phoned but nobody can sort this issue. Our chain is now ready to exchange but we can't because the ID checks are not complete. All me solicitor will say is 'it takes as long as it takes', when i suggested 8 weeks was not satisfactory to carry out the ID checks. To say we are frustrated is an understatement, is there anything i can do?

Do you have the option of satisfying them in person? Is it a local solicitors?

It is not a local firm we were referred by purplebricks. I did ask if they could manually check them as i would happily drive the 30miles to get it sorted but the response was 'if i could i would'

That sounds like you are being fobbed off to me! Find out where their office is and go in person. Computer says no is not a sufficient explanation.

Have you actually told them you're complaining? If not then do so to make clear it is a complaint. You should have been given details of complaints procedure with their terms of business.
  • We did our ID checks at the post office but could have done it in person so seems a bit ‘computer says no’ to me

Sounds a bit unlikely that they haven't been able to do anybody's ID checks for two months.

Has the solicitor done anything on your case?

I'd be looking for a new solicitor if not
