I am so fed up of worrying about this (like everyone else) me and husband had a chat and decided to see if we could go back on our fixed tariff with EDF.  We went on  Fix Total Service May24v3 (E7) on 26th May 2022 but then switched  to SVR as the price cap was cheaper.

Just spoke to EDF and they have put us back on the May fixed.

Based on our average usage it will cost us around £200 (ish) more per year but we’re happy to take the hit so to speak for piece of mind. We we’re still in our 14 day cooling of period so not sure if that’s why we could switch back.

Hi, I'm confused, if you were on a fix, does the price cap not mean you pay the same as the standard rate?
  • Not necessarily, it depends how expensive the fix was - there is a maximum discount that they can use.

Per year extra cost could factoring in post April costs too.

Hi, my fix didn’t change when the price cap came in.  The SVR rate for my area on Economy 7 is:
    Day 45.66
    Night 15.17
    Standing charge 48.68

This is the fixed tariff that I have gone back to May 2024

I was on the May 24 Fix E7 and moved to SVR as I'd have saved nearly £200 a year based on the original government lie policy promise.
I'm still in the 14 day cooling-off period by 3 days. I might see if I can go back, even if it ends up being more for the first six months as I'm a heavy night rate user and that was 5p per kWh different.

Did you call EDF or webchat?

Hi sorry for late reply.  I did this last night about 6.30pm through webchat and only took just over 5 mins waiting to speak to advisor. Changed us back to our fix rate within a minute! Like you I know we could of saved around £200 staying on SVR but honestly I just wanted to be able to stop worrying about it. That is definitely worth the extra £200 😊

  • Thanks. I'm really in a quandary now if it's better to stick on the SVR or see if I can go back to the fix.
  • So asking EDF, this is the response.
"I understand your query I would have been glad to assist you get back to the Tariff however after the increase in the prices in October 2022 by the Ofgem we now only have the Standard Variable on offer and dont have any Fixed Tariffs"
