Should the £67 not be added on?

So, they have refunded the £67 to my account, but I don't understand why. Utterly pointless, now I'll have to make a manual payment back to them. And absolutely no direct communication as to why they've done this.Save 12k in 2017 #78 £15,500/15,000 (103.3%)0

No, it isn't pointless. To actually help people financially they need to either have their DD amounts reduced by £66 or pay the higher DD amount and then have £66 refunded to them.enomis said:So, they have refunded the £67 to my account, but I don't understand why. Sainsbury's said they are reducing direct debits not refunding back to accounts, They have already applied the £66 support payment this month, and based on my calculations my direct debit is correct (they are still showing calculations for incorrect prices), so in this instance it is useless as it will be going straight back to them. It will probably cost me money as may reduce my cash back on my 123 account. All with no direct communication - it's really not good enough.Save 12k in 2017 #78 £15,500/15,000 (103.3%)0

So not only do they have to give you free money, they have to personally tell you exactly what they are doing and when?
What would you like? A butler delivering a telegram, or a visit from the town crier?0 -
It sounds to me like the issue isn't a lack of communication, but rather that what has happened hasn't matched what was communicated. You're still being given money though so probably not a situation worth getting too annoyed about. And if you're keen to optimise things like cashback, don't send the money back but put it in a savings account (e.g. 2.75% easy access at Santander). If you pay more into your account it will ultimately reduce future DD amounts and so you'll lose out on more cashback then.enomis said:Sainsbury's said they are reducing direct debits not refunding back to accounts, They have already applied the £66 support payment this month, and based on my calculations my direct debit is correct (they are still showing calculations for incorrect prices), so in this instance it is useless as it will be going straight back to them. My direct debit without the support should about £160. I paid £100, got £66 support payment into account but also got a £67 refund to my bank account, thus canceling out the support. As yet they haven't said my direct debit is going up to £160ish. And it really isn't going to be £37.

Not yet it doesn't. Absolutely send it back to them if you don't think you'll be able to keep the money safe in a savings account rather than spending it but otherwise you'll be financially better off for not doing so.enomis said:My direct debit without the support should about £160. I finally got the £67 paid into my bank account today though it still shows as a credit on my account page.1

That's good. Sounds like you're all sorted then 🙂.sandy700 said:I finally got the £67 paid into my bank account today though it still shows as a credit on my account page.
(The balance column on your bill is right but they just haven't quite labelled the items correctly but I wouldn't worry about this myself.)0 -
Probably like EDF where a positive could actually be a negative and the reverse, makes no sense but the bottom line is correctborn_again said:This is our EON statement, they have reduced DD by £66, which is gutting given 123 acc & 4% energy cashback..06 OCT 2022

So from the 2 above I would expect it's either a error in their system, or they have refunded £67 back to bank account. As someone else said give it till the end of the week to turn up.
My current account balance is -£300 - that actually means in credit !
