Talking about energy use with no knowledge at all of someone's personal circumstances can easily be misleading.

One scenario where they may well be worth it is when plugs are inaccessible, with things drawing non-negligible power on standby.chris1973 said:Even where the Smart Plug does draw less current than whatever on stand by is connected to it, you still have to claw back the purchase cost of the Smart Plug.
Better to just get off the Sofa, and plug in what you need when you need it. You remove all standby current and save the cost of purchasing the smart plug. Win - Win. Unless you live in a Palace or a 50 room hotel, I can't see how that would be a chore.2 -
Lol, don’t be silly.Miser1964 said:I truly believe a military coup is needed in this country, so the Generals can run Britain for 10 to 15 years until we are back on our feet.3 -

Indeed it would. But the threads of those that engage in trying to save money usually go on to give a lot of information and get a lot of guidance.Ultrasonic said:Talking about energy use with no knowledge at all of someone's personal circumstances can easily be misleading.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). That's exactly how I use mine - with low wattage LED lamps. I use them both as sophisticated timer switches (lovely that I can have them come on at sunset every day without faffing about trying to reset timers periodically as days change length, or the clocks change) and a remote control for lamps I can't easily access to switch on manually.Spoonie_Turtle said:

I didn't buy mine to save money, but for my own convenience and ease of use - so I got my moneys worth within days. I suspect I might even save a few bob, as I can override them easily when not actually required.2 -
If they did a tiered unit EPG and didnt do all the corp tax and top rate tax nonsense they may have got away with the budget without confidence been lost in it.Mstty said:Quite a few of us called this back in October it will not be guaranteed for 2 years that was fiscal suicide.
What a mess they have created.
But they as you said just went in without a care in the world.
Also I wonder if the dailies are going to skyrocket following the announcement, it seemed coincidental daily prices plummeted when the EPG started. Although seems more likely they went down when Europe stopped filling its gas reserve.0 -
Indeed I did purchase some smart plugs recently but that was because of my disability, for access reasons, I wouldnt have done it otherwise.chris1973 said:using smart plugs everywhere to not have anything on standby
Totally counterproductive you do know that Smart Plugs continually draw energy and themselves have a standby quiescent current to enable them to constantly remain connected to wifi and ready to switch on don't you?
Even where the Smart Plug does draw less current than whatever on stand by is connected to it, you still have to claw back the purchase cost of the Smart Plug.

If you have kids, deduct pocket money or Games Console time, for occasions where they leave the TV, chargers, consoles, lights etc on. They'll soon adapt. Life is tough, its going to be even tougher by the time they have bills of their own to pay!.2 -
