CIS said:For council tax you're not liable for any debt accrued after the date you vacated, if someone is still resident in the house. If they're not then it becomes a lot more difficult and very situation specific.
I spoke to council tax today and they said were both liable but she said I have to sort it out with the debt collectors
I know my ex was getting help towards rent and I think we was meant to get help or a reduction in council tax but it was always addressed to my ex with a breakdown
I don't know what happened to be honest
I asked the lady how it works does the debt collector come to both addresses or just one she said she don't know I need to sort it with them
So was about to call them but it clearly states on the letter they won't get into any details0 -

The enforcement agent can only take enforcement action against one party at a time.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
