Glad you've had a good Christmas! I think everyone is in the same boat when it comes to low mortgage rate vs high savings rate. Mine are going into regular savers so at least I don't have to think about what to do until it matures.

Well done on the free panto tickets too - sneaking snacks in is a time honoured Christmas tradition!
Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

Sounds sensible, re: savings V mortgage. I'm going to stick to that for a bit, though I may do a small over payment monthly just so the number goes down. Still thinking about it.
So on this last day of the year here is my update:

    This year I have:
    1. Passed my driving test and got a car!
    2. Finally bought Narnia!
    3. Paid £4001 off my mortgage bringing the balance to £95,999.
    4. Christmas/gifts balance: £48.07
    5. Holiday balance: £209.96 (Need £500 by April 1st)
    6. Vets balance: £12.39 (Need £256 by Jan 26th)
    7. Mortgage OP pot: £2794.16
    8. Money owed £400- should get this in Jan so will be split between vets and OP pot.

    Aims for the new year!
    1. Get OP pot up to £4,500 then decide about OP V mortgage (by end March)
    2. Finally get vets bills reduced as doggo is Much better! Wooooo!
    3. Obviously lose 10 pounds before holiday in April to the land of the thin: California.
    4. Pay £8,000 off mortgage (or have in savings at higher int rate)
    5. Use Toluna vouchers for gifts: AIM £30 pcm worth and save for xmas.
    6. Save for xmas at my house in 2023! I'm hosting. So far have managed to get new cutlery in the sale so everyone can at least have a matching set! (Used nectar points so free to me)
    7. Get emergency fund up to £3000
    8. Start DIY fund
    9. Learn how to use drill!

    House goals:
    1. Get chairs for dining table (I only have 3 and I need 8. Planning to keep looking at the tip)
    2. Use paint already have to do downstairs hallway, lounge, and office)
    3. Get dry stone wall fixed!!!
    4. Put together log store and fill with wood. Log store is here but flat packed, wood has been ordered and paid for.
    5. Buy, new to me, chest of drawers for my room.

Hmmm I think that about covers it for now. I hope everyone has a very happy new year. My grand plan, as always, is to stay at home and write lists for the new year. I always find the new year strange. I think about the last year and how I will miss it. I'm odd like that! This last year has been transformative for me and creative boy.

See you in the new year!

I've joined some challenges to help me get my holiday spending money. My aim is £500 and I'd like that to be free money if possible. When I get survey money 2/3 goes to holiday and 1/3 to xmas/gifts. I've made a good start so far with cur cat. I got £2.98 today! If I can get £1-£3 a day then i'll make my target, along with Qco, TCB and Toluna etc. I'm also hopeful for my free spins. I did well on them before Xmas so hoping for a few wins! I'm feeling more positive about saving now.

It's been a tough week. My sister has relapsed again so is waiting for a rehab space. It's so hard. I can't help her anymore than I have.
In happier news, I celebrated my 10 years sober last week! Yay! Go ME! I'm proud of what I've achieved and the example I'm setting creative boy.

This year I really want to maximise extra money and make it work for me. I'm putting everything in the rainy day saver as the interest is high, then I'm using the interest for holiday spends. I can't wait! It's going to be amazing.
In diet news....It has begun! I went to T4sco today and didn't buy Any rubbish! I saved a bunch of money And it's better for me. I need to lose 10-14 pounds by April 2nd. Then I can eat what I want while we are away.

I'm going to try and update this diary every day to keep myself accountable. If I'm focused, I'm sure I can do it!
    Holiday spends: £220.77/£500
    Xmas/gifts: £55.76/500

    Ok, checking in for accountability!
Surveys have paid out £3.57 today. Not bad considering I've only just started Qmee and Ccat. I've split the amount between holiday spends and xmas/gifts.
So far free money in Jan is £21.80/£155! Wooo! Getting there, I just need to stay focused.

Ugh. So sorry to hear the energy prices climbing so much over there. It's always a shock to the budget, isn't it? I hope there are ways to combat the increases.
