refused refund for a printer at Asda

I wanted to get a printer from Asda as they are fairly affordable so I managed to get a £60 HP 2710e printer scanner I was happy when I brought it, and it also came along with a 2-year year warranty I gave the receipt to my mum as she offered to look after it. as soon as a got it home and tried the printer it didn't work, the printer was not taking the paper from the paper tray and it also wasn't scanning I had to wait a while to take it back as my dad had to take mum to the doctors due to her ill health. anyway when I managed to take it back i was notified by Asda's whatsapp group that i was able to use my bank statment as proof pf purchase it also says it at the back of a till receipt as my mum was doing her own investigations. However the manager in Asda in Biggleswade refused to take my bank statement and said "that they cannot got off from a bank statement" and that " I would need to remember when I got the printer date, time, till number and how much it cost me and then to give my phone number, email address and my name" then they also went on stating that " the manager was not able to do it at that time as she had other things that needs doing" i was left fuming and out of money i never got my refund. i suffer with mental health and this put my anxitey and stress levels into over drive. i really need some help as it has been more than a week since i been there.

Well the simple answer is to get the receipt from your Mum and return with that - or alternatively the details the Manager has asked for. One of these should allow an immediate confirmation of purchase/refund whilst the other, as you've discovered, will need further investigation from the store and might not be 'immediate'

not a tech question try consumer board1

Hi Daniosborne1992,In consumer law, all you have to do is prove that you bought the item, and can use a bank statement, or a credit card statement, as a proof of purchase. All this rubbish about needing the till number, is just a ploy to get rid of you. As many will tell you on these forums, anything you buy must be "Fit For Purpose" and a printer which doesn't work fresh out of the box, is hardly fit for anything!Go Back to the Store, and demand a refund again, under the Sale Of Goods Act. Don't be fobbed off, with some kind of rubbish about needing all this info. Asda will have details of the transaction, which took place on that day, as a means of being able to file its accounts, and also settle its VAT Bill with the government. They would also have details of your Bank Card which you used to pay for the Printer. If you still get no joy, call their Customer Service Telephone Number.Good Luck.RegardsSimon G0

And getting the receipt back off Mum still seems like the easiest option. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.4 -
Not feeding paper or the ability to scan sounds like operator error to me. It would be incredibly unlikely to have two faults from the factory.
Was the printer compatible with the computer, were the correct drivers installed and were the correct programs used to operate the printer? All of these could potentially lead to the issues you describe.1 -
The OP has never been back since posting. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

You can attempt to use a bank statement, and MSE claims you "should" be ok, but ultimately it would come down to if a judge believes it or not.
As to all the "rubbish", its about the store trying to help the customer find a stronger proof of purchase1 -

What's wrong with the printer? It works, but then I'm quite computer literate and "happy" to spend time to work things out. It is a pile of rubbish though. Took a couple of hours to reset it and get wifi working (after trial and error the only reliable"ish" way to set it up is via a smartphone. Nothing else works.)
Printing. Half the time it sits there "thinking". And when it does finally print something it does it at quarter speed.
Had other issues with USB cable printing, borderless printing and Instant Ink.
Definitely avoid the 2700 series HP printer. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.1
