What we are talking about here is what 30 days from the day of purchase means...

Only Argos can answer that one... It's their rule.

But why wait until last day?
    Life in the slow lane
  • If you purchase at 5 pm on the 7th of Sep then 30 x 24 hour blocks of time takes you to 5pm on the 7th of Oct.

Any ambiguity in terms should favour the party that didn't write them but good luck arguing that with Argos.

Question is how was the order placed? If it was online for delivery or click and collection what info was given regarding the right to cancel?

  • It was ordered online for delivery

Could the problem be that by asking for collection on 6th, when would it be picked up and returned back to Argos?

it is not going to be the 6th or  the 7th, so will not meet the 30 day deadline.

I don't see any ambiguity in the Argos statement.  It clearly states 30 days from date of purchase or date of receipt.  That clearly, to me at least, means that the date of purchase or date of receipt is effectively Day1.  Therefore an item received on the 1st of the month can be returned up to and including the 30th of that month and no later.
Unless I've missed it, the OP still hasn't said why the son took so long to return the item.  Had they been using it for that period?
    Wrong.

An item purchased on the 1st with a returns policy of 30 days has until the 31st.

If you saw your doctor on a Tuesday and he/she said to come back in 7 days, would you come back the following Monday?

    Wrong.
If I said an item was available from the 6th September, would you wait until the 7th September to collect it?

Sheramber they are not concerned with the date an item is collected only with the date you requested the collection which must be no more than 30 days from the delivery date according to their t & c's

For me there is no question that Argos's interpretation is simply wrong.
Imagine for a second that the policy actually stated "If you've changed your mind and need to return an item, you have 1 day from the date of purchase". It defies logic and common sense that if you order something one minute before the store closes then you cannot change your mind at 9am the next day and return the item... QED purchase date is day zero and the next day is day one.

Every generation blames the one before...

Quite astonishing how few people get this.
Tomorrow is 1 day from today.
Today is zero days from today.
New Years Day is 7 days from Xmas day.
And 7th October is 30 days from 7th September.
No its not, 7th Sept is the start of the 30 days, same as if you pay rent or a mortgage. rent Month would be 7th - 6th, the next 7th would be the start of a new month same applies to mortgages. Its calculated from the day keys are handed over which is normally the day you move in. 30 days from purchase means 30 days from the day of purchase, not hard to understand

But what do you (and others on Argos's side of the debate) think having 'one day from the date of purchase' would mean?
