Energy saving obstructed?

I've not tried to look into the details of what was blocked but I've been saying for a while now that more of a lead from the government to encourage more people to use less energy would be welcome, and in particular it would be desperately dumb if we end up having any sort of organised power cuts without this having happened.2

There will not be any action until power cuts are inevitable. Truss will want to pretend there is no issue and that she has saved us right up until the point it all goes wrong, at which point it will be the fault of "someone else".Ultrasonic said:I've not tried to look into the details of what was blocked but I've been saying for a while now that more of a lead from the government to encourage more people to use less energy would be welcome, and in particular it would be desperately dumb if we end up having any sort of organised power cuts without this having happened.
I suspect the point we will all be asked to cut back will be at the point when power cuts are already impossible to avoid, at which point there will be panic buying of power banks, bottled gas, blankets etc. as people will equate three hours of power cuts with the apocalypse.4 -
Some people still think the £2,500 really is a 'price cap'.Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!0

TBH the way to get people to use less is to make it more expensive rather than giving out heaps of money and limiting the price of energy just encourages people to not bother.
Telling people to turn stuff off and close doors won't do it.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers6 -
There was something in the 'news' the other day where loose women were talking about the cost of living and Gloria whatshername said some of the 'common sense' things, didn't go down too well coming from someone with money with calls for the show to be scrapped, Gloria fired and how out of touch they are.
It happened to pop up on edge when I opened my browser.
I can see why an advert / promotion got pulled / shelved as there'd probably be a similar response.
I'm in the layer up and have a hot drink / meal camp. It's still not cold enough to have my heating on for a bit up here.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -

Telling people to turn stuff off and close doors won't do it.Brilliant solution! Lets make it so that only the hyper rich can afford to have the heating on, or cook their meals.Meanwhile in The Real World most of us have got the heating turned so low that it only comes on when the damp rising up the walls starts to freeze. (A great "benefit" of insulation and stopping draughts is mold & damp)I've been turning down the heating to save on the massive expense of the bills since before gas hit the dizzy heights of 3.5p a kWh, I can't do any more without making my quality of life even more miserable- yes I can dress like an Eskimo but even they keep their houses warm enough to take their coats off inside.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Makes you wonder how many people must have been exasperated with her in her childhood for her to develop this tick?double_dutchy said:Several European countries, including Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Ireland and Switzerland, are running public information campaigns. I assume they all think that it will lead to reduced energy usage, as would any campaign run here.
LIz Truss is reportedly against it, not because she doesn't think it will work, but because she is ideologically opposed to telling people how to behave.0 -

Back in the early 80's when I got my first home the electric and gas bills were just a set of numbers I didn't understand but by the late 80's I was taking readings and doing calculations on my energy bills.
The wife was a if I want it on I will have it on type of person and the thermostat was set at 27 degrees and she had the heating on in summer even if it was in the mid 20's outside and the heating was on 24/7. When she realised that I had being reducing the thermostat by one degrees per fortnight she went ballistic but she didn't realise until it had being at 19 degrees for a few months no " I'm cold turn the heating on or check the heating?" It was open the patio door time! Then 30 minutes later I'm cold shut the patio doors.Someone please tell me what money is0
