I think it was a campaign to help people save up to £300 a year by doing things like lowering the temperature of boilers, turning off radiators in empty rooms and turning off the heating when going out.maxmycardagain said:On the news, HMG have blocked an energy saving promotion

A £15m advertising campaign advising people how to reduce energy consumption - The information is already in the public domain, and just common sense. Unfortunately, vast swathes of the public need to be reminded, and a small number need reeducating.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

No actual saving was obstructed, just wasting money telling people things that they should already know and is available from other sources already.6

It was telling people to shut the doors and turn lights off

This sort of campaign was always likely to get a poor reception on this forum but in reality there are a lot of people who have never even thought about saving energy for whom this kind of information might have been useful. The number of people I've spoken to who can't even understand an electric bill is frightening.

The information has been in the news for years, over the last six months it has been on all broadcast news, published, online, social media etc. incessantly, media is saturated with it. The information that was going to be published in the shelved campaign is information that people have available if they want it, those that have not absorbed information are doing so by choice, paying for a campaign would just result in that campaign being another source of information that they choose to ignore.daveyjp said:MattMattMattUK said:No actual saving was obstructed, just wasting money telling people things that they should already know and is available from other sources already."telling people things that they should already know".As we are all born knowing nothing how did you learn 'what you already know'? These people are not suddenly going become interested because the government runs an advert. And no advert is going to be able to explain to them things that they are not interested in.Xbigman said:This sort of campaign was always likely to get a poor reception on this forum but in reality there are a lot of people who have never even thought about saving energy for whom this kind of information might have been useful. If they were interested, they would already know.
Actually surprisingly sensible for HMG to decide not to spend money on something that would have been useless PR guff.8
