I have read the link and I can not say I am much the wiser, except it seems the way Vanguard calculate the return seems to give an unexpected result.

Just quoting what it says 😿
You are not the first to be confused by that.     Just ignore that figure.

Indeed. It's not the first time it's caused confusion

I have noticed that my personal rate of return as stated by Vanguard is also complete rubbish!  I have no idea how they work it out, but it definitely has not been correct for me.
Think first of your goal, then make it happen!

Sorry to interrupt but what is the cheapest platform to hold HSBC HMWO?
That would depend upon the type of account (SIPP, ISA or GIA), the sums involved and the frequency of trading

That will depend on how much you are going to hold any trading (buying more) and for how long.

Opened in December 2020.  I paid in an additional £10,000 in August and it dropped by £818 in September!  Think I'll go back to ignoring it 🙀
It is your August contribution that is causing the misleading figure, in essence the loss against the £10,000 contribution has been annualised, as if you were going to make the same loss until next August.
