I would, from my own experience, say yes but then other people will say no.slhqoue said:Thanks, so it's DEFINITELY OK if none of the Direct Debits have actually taken any money?
It is your decision to make.0 -
Most, if not all, of those would have previously 'taken money' though, so pretty much irrelevant to the question quoted.Astria said:slhqoue said:Thanks, so it's DEFINITELY OK if none of the Direct Debits have actually taken any money?Active is all that's required, you'd be pretty miffed if you switched your DD for gas, electric and water, and then didn't get anything because your energy provider took payment every 6 months, and your water every 3 - 6 months, right? My water bills seem to all over the place, I got one in January, then one in August and another in September, all based on actual readings. I've used OnePound DD. How much time do people generally give the DD's to set up before initiating the bank switch?

It takes about 5 or 6 business days after setting them up, for them to appear in your donor account. Once they are visible, I apply for the switch.
You could start the switch sooner, knowing that you've set up the direct debits, but if something goes wrong and one or both don't appear, you will have wasted the switch if it goes through without them. So I wait until I can see them set up in the donor account.1 -
I asked Nationwide and they said money needs to have been taken from your account.1

The banks wouldn't know they have "previously taken money" on a completely different bank account though, so it's not actually that irrelevant, when my utility DDs were last moved the a new bank they said "Last used: never".soulsaver said:

I was paid the Nationwide bonus after I transferred, Plum (weekly DD) was taken, my mobile bill wasn't until after the bonus was paid1

The banks do know- the DD info comes across with 'last paid' data. They don't show it in the new account because it's never been paid from the new account.Astria said:
