Thank you. There was no appropriate title to select and I had to select something0

Out of curiosity, why would you ask? Serious question...maddesigns said:Hi, Is it a legal requirement to register on the electoral roll? I know why you are asked to, but do you have to consent? Thank you
Most people are aware it's a criminal offence and that there really aren't ANY good reasons not to register. But quite a few good reasons to register.
If you are concerned about your details being sold on to third parties you can always choose not to be included in that extract from the register.0 -
I used to do the physical chase up to people who had not returned the appropriate formWhen training for this role I was told it was not compulsory to fill in a returnSeveral people did refuse for various reasons

Are you sure that is correct? My understanding (and perhaps I'm wrong) has always been that you might not be required to register voluntarily, but that if you are (1) asked to register by your local Electoral Registration Office, and (2) you satisfy the requirements for registration, then you commit an offence if you fail to do so.SteveJW said:I used to do the physical chase up to people who had not returned the appropriate formWhen training for this role I was told it was not compulsory to fill in a returnSeveral people did refuse for various reasons"What happens if you do not register
You must register to vote if you’re asked to do so and you meet the conditions for registering, for example you’re 16 or over and you’re British or a national of an EU or Commonwealth country.
If you’re asked to register and do not, you could be fined.
You will not be fined if you have a valid reason for not registering, for example a long stay in hospital, or you have severe learning difficulties."
The electoral register and the 'open register': Get on the electoral register - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
(Admittedly that's a .gov.uk website so might be utter cobblers... )
I would have thought that if you've received a registration form, but you don't register, then you leave yourself open to being fined

Wonder if you can use not having photo id as a reason not to register as it will soon stop you voting in person1

Thank you very much, therefore consent is required?SteveJW said:I used to do the physical chase up to people who had not returned the appropriate formWhen training for this role I was told it was not compulsory to fill in a returnSeveral people did refuse for various reasons0 -
