Why do they need to estimate it when you provide them with the ACTUAL readings?Deleted_User said:
They would estimate. Just the same as every supplier has done since the dawn of time.Leodogger said:
If you have a meter reading in the middle of the month and then another in the middle of the next month, how would they know what proportion of your reading was used at the old rate and then at the new rate if it increased on the 1st of the next month?Deleted_User said:
The rate changes on a date, not on a meter reading, surely?Leodogger said:
I submitted my reading on 30th September but according to people on here that reading would have been applied at midnight on 29th September meaning any energy I used on 30th September would be included in the next meter reading which would be costed at the increased rate (presumably!).QrizB said:Leodogger said:
That hardly seems fair, since the increase starts from your previous reading, if read before the increase.QrizB said:Octopus always treat customer meter readings as applying at the end of the previous day.Sorry, you've lost me.- If you submitted a meter reading on the 31st of August, it would be treated as being on the 30th
- If your next reading is on the 30th of September, it's treated as being on the 29th.
There's 30 days between readings, whether 31st-to-30th or 30th-to-29th. What exactly isn't fair?
My meter reads are on the 19th, so it happens to me every time the tariffs change.... an actual reading from a random time during the day...It is actually to your advantage that Octopus treat the reading as at the previous midnight when there is a tariff increase as you get some of the following day's usage at the old rate.If it bothers anyone just submit a meter reading today and it will be regarded as midnight on the 30th.0 -
Don’t know why you are complaining, if your reading for the 30th is used for the 29th then you’re going to get more units for 30th charged at the cheaper rateLeodogger said:

Only if they charge the exta units on the 30th at the old rate but how do they know they were used before the increase, that is what I want to know? I thought they just took the number of units from the last reading (before the increase) and those after the increase date and charged them all at the increased price.Mobtr said:

You’ll be charge units used up to 30/09 at the old rate & units used from 01/10 at the new rate. If they’ve put your reading in for 29th, they’ll have to put another one for the 30th Just wait until you get a bill & see what you get charged & sort it out then if it’s not correct. No good fretting about it until you know what you’ve been chargedLeodogger said:

Fretting - it’s one of the new ways of keeping warm.
Seriously, I have no idea how much electricity the OP uses in a day but, say, it is 10kWh the actual cost difference is 10 (EPG unit price - old Cap unit price).Octopus will bill correctly as will be the case when a consumer provides a late meter reading.1 -
I submitted mine late on the 29th, just so that it was done with, purely because I walked past the meter and it reminded me. My bill arrived, for the period to the 29th - they appear to have charged me for the amount of electricity to the 28th, but 29 days of SC. At very worst, the difference of 2 days at the new rate (29th and 30th September) will cost me an extra £1.18.
But in reality, when I submit my readings at the end of October, I expect they'll put an estimated reading in for 30th and I'll get 2 days of that estimate at the old rate and 31 days at the new rate. I just checked and that's what they did in April, as their new prices started on the 2nd and I put in a read on 31st March.
I shall be happy to feel cold through not fretting about it.0 -
I submitted mine and it did the same thing. I also noted that The unit price had changed on my tariff BEFORE the change over date.. OE has a disclaimer on their site that "We have not yet added the discount to the bills" yet billing on that amount! Yet published 2 charts with the actual expected bills (rates) when this has already been announced by the government.Well, I am not paying the bill till you do! I think this is in an effort to get customers to overpay so they have money in the bank. I only pay on a fixed billing, not lining their pockets with these rates.0

The unit price being displayed has changed. You have no idea what unit price has been used on your bill until you get it. It won’t be that one.caerleon9176 said:I submitted mine and it did the same thing. I also noted that The unit price had changed on my tariff BEFORE the change over date..
