Did I say "better"? I just told you what they are doing.zanderman1985 said:"They are not charging you £60 though. They are putting £60 into your energy account from your bank account. That's what the contract tells them to do."
yes because its better for them to acrue ointerest on my money than me benefitting from it? really dont see your logic here0 -
Rather than ripping out your smart meter which will complicate things even more why dont you just go to a variable direct debit so you only pay for what you use on a monthly basis. The money being paid into your account to help with energy costs will sit there as credit so when you do start using and need to pay you will be well in credit.
If you are letting from a housing association why would you not be living in the flat?0 -
@zanderman1985, EDF call the option to only pay for what you have used "Direct Debit with exact payments". Ask them to put you on that and you'll only pay for what you have actually used.

I'll take out the smart meter and give them the readings so they cant ignore what I've already told them - only sleeping in the flat, boiler turned off and nothing being used - so they dont have anymore excuses to f*** it up
how so many people went along with smart meters is hilarious, they have accurate figures but can only make 'estimations'... please, so many people cant be this gullible0 -
Switch to variable DD and pay for what you use. That will solve the problem.
they are estimating.
your situation of switching the boiler off is not normal so their estimating doesn’t take account of it.
they are probably assuming your past usage will continue which is most cases is a reasonable assumption.
if you switch to pay for what you use then the estimating issue will go away.2 -
Your apparent outrage seems rather misplaced, given that they have been taking about £60pm from your account for 4 months, but you didn't even bother to look at your bills via your online account? A glance at that would have shown that the billing was based on estimated reads, from which it would be obvious that your smart meter is not sending reads back home.No free lunch, and no free laptop

You seem to be quite angry because EDF don't know that you've decided not to spend any time in your property. How could they possibly know this?
They have to estimate a normal pattern of usage based on someone living there and in fairness have come up with a really low DD. Send them monthly meter readings and ask to pay each month for what you use (exact use DD) and the problem is sorted very simply.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I understand what you say about not knowing when he moved in but he has stated several times that he has a smart meter.Robin9 said:

Reading the smart meter yourself and submitting those readings to your supplier is a good idea.zanderman1985 said:I'll take out the smart meter and give them the readings ...Taking the meter out, less so.N.
