being charged 60 pounds for a flat I only sleep in where the boiler has been turned off

I'm not down at the flat so heres the readings from the smart meter which - correct me if I'm wrong here - gives EDF exact readings
on the bill for electricity: previous reading july-aug: previous, 6068 - latest, 6072
gas: previous,1219 - latest 1233
so... 4 units of leccy and 14 units of gas is costing me 60 quid? and this is THEIR estimates... which means they are fully aware that I'm using close to nothing and still charging the same price, thats why a dd indemnity is justified0 -
thank you, exactlyturnitround said:But if you have a smart meter then they should have accurate readings.0 -
Only if it is communicating correctly which, based on the fact that the quoted bill refers to estimated readings, I infer that it is not.turnitround said:But if you have a smart meter then they should have accurate readings.4 -
Oooops, I missed that.[Deleted User] said:

The readings on the bill are accurate, considering I have used NOTHING in the last 4 months and they are not the same as when I moved in EDF are querying the readings because they have barely changed but knowing this, still charge 60 quid a monthturnitround said:

You can switch to paying variable DD if you wish. That way you use any credit first and then only get billed for what you use (standing charge)zanderman1985 said:

Fixed direct debits do not react well to customers using zero energy and are reviewed 6 months or even longer so not fast reacting.0 -
They are not charging you £60 though. They are putting £60 into your energy account from your bank account. That's what the contract tells them to do.zanderman1985 said:I'm not down at the flat so heres the readings from the smart meter which - correct me if I'm wrong here - gives EDF exact readings

They are looking at what you are probably going to use in the whole year - it would be silly for them to assume that you wouldn't use any heating, hot water or electricity over the whole of winter.1 -

guess i'm ripping out their smart meter then, I'm paying for it to send accurate readings that EDF obviously arent using
thanks for the info0 -
and the direct debit tells them to take out 59 quid, not 65, not 63.51 - the latest withdrawal or any number of the dd's that go above the amount stated in the DD (I've already claimed back one DD on the advice of my bank that if it isnt the amount on the DD then it is in violation of the agreement)0

yes because its better for them to acrue ointerest on my money than me benefitting from it? really dont see your logic here0
