It would appear I've been mis-sold by EDF who said I could have a single rate tarrif after 28 days of moving to them with an E7 meter. Now they say I can only have this with a smart meter, which I don't mind having, but they cannot say when this will be installed. In the meantime I'm going to be paying 12p per unit more in the day than the normal standard variable, and with little night use there's not much saving to be had with the overnight rate.

I'd happily move company again if I can find somebody who will give me a single rate with non-smart E7 meters.

Most suppliers can put you on single rate without a meter change. They just apply the same single charge to the day rate and the night rate.  EDF support that method as they did it for me several years ago.    I just had to submit both readings and the bill used the same rate for both.

I know it's technically possible for them to do, we've had it before. It's finding a company that will actually do it right now. Outfox dumped us onto E7 rates when our fix finished in February and said it wasn't possible to have single rate - ie we're not offering it. Now I'm being fleeced by EDF who said I could switch to single rate billing after 28 days of joining them, but are now denying that. Everybody is obsessed with getting you onto a smart meter, without having the smart meters to actually install, from what I can gather.

Have you tried Octopus? EDF and Octopus are, reportedly, the only suppliers taking on new customers at present.

The fact you have done it before and I have done it before makes me think you are being duff information.  You should push the point with them and go to complaint if necessary.   I think you are being fobbed off by someone that doesn't understand.

Eon. I have an old E7 meter, and they apply the same rate for day and night.

Very possibly, but I don't have the time or energy to argue the toss at the moment with a major building project taking place at home. I just want an easy solution to move somewhere, anywhere, where I can get a single rate tarrif. I'll deal with getting a smart meter after that. What I don't want is to be somewhere stuck in a long queue waiting for a smart meter, then the worst of all worlds, an Economy 7 smart meter turning up!

I think I may be getting somewhere with EDF, I complained via Facebook and have been told by somebody from EDF called Tom,that they CAN give me a totaliser tariff while I'm waiting for a smart meter to be installed, and that this tariff can be backdated.  I've got to go via their chat system to request it, which I'm yet to start, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Maybe, but having just submitted my meter readings, I've discovered that EDF have screwed up my E7 meters on their records and I'm being charged day rates at night time and vice versa............ I've had this before and it took an age to correct. I can see it taking a long time to get my outstanding balance back from the previous supplier when they send through their estimated readings.
