  • When I saw that hole, I immediately thought they’ve had a kitten/gerbil/hamster go missing at some point 😀

Now that you're a homeowner it's a good time to start learning some basic DIY. Something simple like that is a good place to start.
Check the type of construction of the wall. Is.It brick, block, plasterboard?

And I thought, "They didn't have ferrets!" :D

  • OP - for future reference you should also bear in mind that the estate agent works for the seller - not you.

What should we do now? Surely the previous owner can't just leave that hole and expect us to be fine with it?
I think they've already decided it will be more trouble for you to chase them about it than getting it fixed. If you are up for home ownership in an MSE way, look at videos about filling holes in plasterboard walls. If you can physically get to the other side, it won't be very hard.

Potentially you can use spray foam inside to pack the hole and then sand it down and fill it.
The hole is right next to an electric and TV point (I suspect the hole might be related to accessing a cable).

I wouldn't use spray foam anywhere close to electrical cables/sockets etc.
True. Newspaper it is then 😆😆 bit of filler over the top.
  • You've bought a "second hand house". What is it that you expect? It's part of home ownership.

OP - for future reference you should also bear in mind that the estate agent works for the seller - not you.

Going off topic - but I'm not sure it's wise to think in those terms. Estate Agents generally put their own best interests first.

If there's a conflict of interest between Estate Agent and seller, I think the Estate Agent would aim to look after themselves.

Similarly, if there's some kind of dispute between buyer and seller, I think the Estate Agent would follow a path (and/or choose a party to side with) based on achieving the best outcome for the Estate Agent.

So in the OP's case - I doubt the Estate Agent will be interested, because there's nothing in it for the Estate Agent.

  • Its annoying, but as stated, its not a new house and these things will be there.

The house I am selling, I took down shelves and wall art which left pin/screw holes, but I did go around and fill the holes and touch the paint in so they were presentable, but I didn't have to, I guess.

Also as stated, it wont cost miuch to have a DIY person sort it and its done and you can enjoy your new (to you) home.

Our previous owners touched up everything in egg shell paint instead of Matt emulsion. The walls (which require mineral paint) look like they have a rash. Wish they'd left it alone 🙈
