EDF use the term PAYG for all their prepay meters.

EdF's own descriptions, taken from their contract terms and conditions:

    Direct Debit:
This is one of the cheapest ways to pay for your energy because your unit rate is lower in comparison to other payment methods. If, for any reason, you stop paying by Direct Debit we can move you onto cash/cheque or Pay As You Go prices, which may be higher.

    Pay As You Go:
Pay as you go is a quick and easy way to pay for your energy and means paying in advance through a smart meter. You can pay on the app, online via My Account, in-store with a top up card or over the phone.

    Cash/Cheque:
You pay a higher unit rate for Cash/Cheque than for Direct Debit. If you pay by Debit or Credit card, you are charged Cash/Cheque prices.

    Prepayment:
Means paying in advance through a Prepayment meter using a prepayment key/card.

Someone posted something that was correct.  In some contexts the terms are interchangeable, in others they are different.  Your 'correction' is unnecessary.

i think the important thing is that it makes a difference to the op's complaint. the ombudsman would probably be unreasonable for a supplier to have taken since February 2021 to send a software update to change a tariff. they might not find a large sum of compensation but the op might get something for the delay. that's a completely different set of circumstances if the delay is because someone needs to physically go to the property and change the meter. there's been the pandemic and shortages in supply of meters then a backlog for servicing and shortage of engineers. much easier for a company to make a case for why it's taken so long so less likely the ombusman would fully uphold the op's complaint.

the op might have a better chance complaining about the lack of bills. it's been a long time since i was on a pre-pay meter so i can't remember how that works. but the supplier would probably say there's a way for the op to get the information they want via the meter or that it's not possible to provide with their current meter but they would be abel to have that information with a smart meter (which they could have as soon as the supplier could fit one., catch 22)

i would still suggest the op consider taking a picture of the meter so the clever people on here can maybe see if there's a way for the OP to get the rates and usage at each rate so the op could at least see and figure out if they're significantly worse off on their current tariffs and if so by how much.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • they can manage to send a letter about price increase.... But still not addressing the bills or tariff!

As everyone can see on here it says pay as you go. Not sure why that's a huge issue!

I'll take pictures of the meter and I really appreciate all input so far 🙏

Isn't that actually quite a good rate? The average cap for non-E7 is 34p per kWh for electric so you are going to be 4p over during the day but 18p under at night.

i don't know how to work out percentages but i would think if you could shift even a little bit of your usage overnight you'd be under the cap on average. maybe look to see if you can charge your laptop/phone find a second hand slow cooker or do your laundry overnight?

It might not be an issue at all, but as ariarnia said - if it did get to the stage of the ombudsman or similar, it might be seen as 'ok' that the supplier couldn't get to you to change your physical mater, but might be seen as 'less ok' that they didn't just push a button on the computer.
