Does Duvet Brand Matter?

If you want to be warmer in bed, get a heavier cotton duvet cover.1

I have that very thing, decent bedding is something i will happily spend money on because i need a good nights sleep.
I also use a top sheet, both help.3 -
Catpuss66 said:Try soak & sleep, got the most expensive one I could afford, still going 10 + years on, just recently been cleaned got 9 tog Hungarian feather & down I think. I also have an allergy to feathers and wool. I use a silk quilt in summer, and the best synthetic I can find for winter, always with a cotton casing.1

I second soak and sleep, I also have their wool pillow and it really is very good. I plan on getting some more as we are both allergic to feathers. At the risk of going off topic, I have found a slumberland summer wright duvet has done me well for 10 years, combined with a Whitney wool blanket in the winter.

We have a 13.5 tog 60% goose down/40% goose feather duvet from The Fine Bedding Company. It's incredibly light not to mention snuggly/warm, moulding around you as you sleep. It's like new after 8+ years. We rarely need to add an extra layer but if we do, we have a 100% cotton throw (from Bedeck) that does the trick.
In the guest room we've got a Linea (House of Fraser) 100% wool duvet that's labelled as 9-12 tog and is also very toasty.
Otoh, when we were selling our last house and needed to dress a bed in a room that didn't previously have one, we purchased a cheapie hollowfibre duvet of a similar tog rating. We kept it for a while after moving and I slept under it once. I found it cold and stiff - it didn't drap nicely around me but just lay heavily without bringing much warmth. It went to the charity shop shortly afterwards 🙄1 -
I had a Hungarian goose down one from Diamond bedding and can not fault it. Just as good as the one we paid twice the price for from Debenhams a few years ago. Bought this one for another bed we use

Doozergirl said:There are so many different types of duvet before you even consider brands.I've found one that I like and I stick to it. M&S goose feather and down for our house. I like the lightness yet warmth of it and how the pockets allow it to drape. It's always going to be different to a Tesco Value one, for example.2

Another vote for Soak and Sleep we started using them for camping in our folding camper which got really cold in winter, water frozen in the sink. We still have them in our caravan.
Look for their deals, often 25% or even 40% off some products.1 -
For those advocating spending a lot on a good quilt can I ask about how you get them cleaned? Buying a new cheap duvet is usually the same cost or even less. I want to stop the throwaway - but not sure I can afford expensive duvet plus expensive cleaning costs.
