I was just answering OP's electricity usage query - I think it's fairly safe to say that'll be around the 35p mark, give or take a bit.

Edit: But yeah, the credit situation would be good to know too, thanks

2862.7 Kwh is how much electricity I used in the last year so why are they trying to change me £395 per month then? I don't get it

They are not trying to charge you £395 a month. The supplier wants you to put £395 a month into your energy account from which charges for energy used will be deducted. Clearly, you want the monthly payment to be as accurate as possible but please don’t confuse the monthly DD payment with actual charges.

Your statement should show an estimate for your annual usage: does this match your own calculation?

@PM22  Are you now in credit or debit with both gas and electricity. ?

Is your electricity consumption based on actual bills ?

electricity is based on actual bills?  Or actual meter readings?  And what about the gas??

check your total use over the last year to see if that is anything like the estimated use the energy provider suggest.  (mine wasn't).  Then calculate how much you would need to pay for your annual use based on the new rates in October.  Your DD should be about 1/12th of that.  Maybe 1/10th if you want to ensure you are covering winter use sufficiently.  Don't let the energy company tell you that you have to be way in credit by about 3 months "to keep things safe".  That just puts money in their pocket rather than nicely in your own.
