When I was at high school I had to wear my mother's old school scarf.Apart from replacing gym slips with skirts they hadn't changed the uniform since she'd been a pupil there.
Uniform was expensive.  We had to buy it from one particular shop although we could wear home made gingham dresses in the summer.

I still have my grammar school scarf, but I can't wear it in public because the moths have a right feast of it!

I still wear regularly an Ore (Norwegian) fisherman style jumper I bought in the 80s; though I do need to do some remedial darning to the elbows which are looking at little thin.  (I'm beginning to suspect I lean my elbows on the table!)

I have a Le Tricoteur guernsey inherited from MIL and one I bought myself (again 80s) that I wear occasionally.

  • My oldest item of clothes I wear much of the time is a sweater I inherited from my father - who died in 2006. He had been wearing it for over 30 years.  I wear it fifty to sixty times a year now if not more. I need to repair a bit on one of the sleeves, but it is doing fine. I still have a navy cardigan and a grey skirt I bought in 1965 secondhand that I wear only occasionally. And hidden away, I still have my hatbox containing hats originally from the 1930s I occasionally wear. But they aren't like the sweater, which is my go-to sweater for warming up.
