  • I bought a pair of walking boots for a school trip when I was 11. I'm now 40, my shoe size is the same as when I was 11, and the boots are still going 29 years on (as you can tell, i've not done a lot of walking necessitating walking boots).

I'll keep it simple & not list all my old clothes that I still wear by saying I haven't bought any new clothes for over 15 years.
I did buy some new boxers last year as most of my current ones are losing their elasticity so don't fit properly but most of my underwear & all of my socks come from Christmas & Birthday presents so can't remember the last time I bought socks - I still have at least 20 new pairs in my drawers that haven't even been taken out of the wrappers. (Just checked - 32 pairs I could find - unfortunately lots are white which I don't wear anymore).
I can't think what are the oldest clothes I still wear but as I sit here I know the T-shirt I'm wearing is 29 years old & is 1 of 6 I bought (and still have) on a lads holiday in Turkey in 1994. I also have specific clothes/shoes that I wear occasionally for gardening or diy that are older than my children who are in their 30's.
  • My oldest item of clothing is a massive "Norwegian"-style jumper bought in circa 1981/2.  Still looks like new, deals with the harshest winters.  Great stuff.

I have a 1970s, scratchy, acrylic, purple-striped, chunky-knit, belted cardigan, which was my Mum's. It's got enormously flared sleeves with turn-ups. I wear it when it's really cold in the house, I'm not brave enough to wear it out (it's a bit of a fashion statement, but also it wouldn't fit under any coat in the cold weather, and I'd boil if it was warm and risk losing it if I took it off). I've also had to be careful in the past not to get close to any candles or lit gas-rings as I'm terrified of setting one of the droopy sleeves on fire, the whole thing would go up like a Christmas tree. I absolutely love it!

I bought a beautiful wool jumper from Jaeger in 1984.  I still wear it now. It still looks great and washes very well
  • Not clothing as such, but the oldest item I still use is a red handbag my Mum bought me when I was young.  Still in good condition, it's 53 years old.
Smile. You'll feel better, and other people will wonder why . . .
  • And you just try telling t' young people of today that, and they just won't believe you.
  • 1973 Ashman's motorcycle boots until recently when I finally gave up motorcycling.
    1985 New Balance 420 trainers.
1988 Keswick World Cup fell race t-shirt.
1989 Hawkins walking boots - nowadays my gardening boots.

Mom's dress from the 1970s (no clue about the exact year) bought in one of the high-end boutiques of the time in Athens, Greece, worn last week in Marrakech:

I think they really used to make so much better quality clothes in those days, as the colours have not faded at all, and it's not like she hadn't worn it!

I have a pair of regulation school shorts that I still wear occasionally. The cost felt extortionate at the time to my parents - I remember attending an open day in the summer term before I joined - being very excited about joining and my father complaining in the car on the way home about the cost of the uniform.
